Fusion
Ya it would be sweet, I mean Apple would never have to make new laptops ever again. They could just try getting revenue off some other companies processors. I mean, there would not even be a reason for Apple to exist anymore. Go take an economics class

I thought they were just pushing new technology for FUN!

the evn show
The best part of being able to upgrade a G3 ibook to G5 is that we could finally see what one of the fastest 64-bit processors in the world would feel like on a 66 MHz bus. That would totally rock! And using a RAGE Mobility with OS X 10.3? Who needs quartz extreme! And that digital video camera would rule - i mean we could use the same old USB 1.0 connectors that came with the Wallstreet powerbooks, and we'd save a fortune. And never having to worry about 802.11g because we've got 10/100 ethernet and 802.11b built in, our investment can last forever. When it comes to notebook computers, the processor isn't the major player. Connectivity, physical size, power consumption, battery technology, and just about every other peice of hardware plays an equally if not more important roll. Sure, any dodo can put a new cpu in them or whatever else, but I am pretty sure this would destroy the warranty. Even if they offer factory upgrades, it is not a wise choice for apple. #2 - You are missing the point. Apple is a hardware company. If they simply offered upgrades to all their machines, people would not buy as many new hardware units as they do now. What would be the point? They are the only seller of the g5, so what? You think people are going to pay the same price for a processor as they are for a whole new computer? try again.....
