Rox
So I just booted MandrakeMove (which is pretty sweet!) and I was wondering if using the USB keycahin storage device is the only way to save your settings and documents? Is it possible to save them to your hard drive? Thx for the help in advance!
markwolfe Veteran Posted January 14, 2004 Veteran Share Posted January 14, 2004 Ummm... yeah. It's called tar. Seriously, though... Are you looking on how to change Mandrake Move to use the device of your choice? Or is it a general backup/copy question?
Rox
Well I just want to be able to save all my settings and files and such to my hard drive instead of saving it to a USB keychain since I don't have one. Thx for the reply!
markwolfe Veteran Posted January 14, 2004 Veteran Share Posted January 14, 2004 If you want to save data to your hard drive, it must be mounted and writeable by you. I am not sure how MandrakeMove (I looked at it, and it appears to be a LiveCD) mounts your Windows drive (assuming Windows, correct?) If your Windows partition is NTFS, Linux will not write to it witout a bit of coaxing. This is because Microsoft's NTFS format in undocumented (at least, outside of Redmond). If you can make a small bit of FAT drivespace available, then you can use that to write to in both Linux and Windows, so you can share docs, MP3s, etc. Or, just go ahead and install Mandrake. It may be easier (and will CERTAINLY be faster) in the long run...
