On the IE menu, look for Tools --> Internet Options -->Advanced

Look for the the option Search from the Address Bar, When Searching and select the option you want. Maybe Don't search from the Address Bar.

Also, you can change the Home Page default to whatever you like (maybe this is also changed -- under the General Tab).

Here are the three ways in increasing order of complexity:

1. Change the settings through the IE Search screen.

Click on Customize-->Autosearch settings.

2. Edit the registry. Search under the following:

My ComputerHKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftInternet Explorer

Look in SearchURL and edit the data in: (Default)

Look in MAIN and edit the data in the following:

--> Search Bar

--> Search Page

--> Use Custom Search URL (two options here 0 for NO, 1 for yes)

3. Setup a Group Policy using the MMC. (From Run, type MMC, then go to the menu and click on Console --> Add/Remove Snap-In

You should get a popup window with Snap-Ins Added to --> Console Root. Add the Group Policy and click OK/Close.

Now you should see: Local Computer Policy with two options beneath. Under User Configuration, click on Windows Settings --> Internet Explorer Maintenance -->URLs. Click on and edit the following: Important URL's (There are three options: Home Page URL; Search Page URL; and Online Support Page URL.) If you are part of a 2000/XP domain, these settings can be overridden, but if not specified by the domain controller, will be applied.

Editing and setting Group Policies can make XP/2000 boot slower because of all the aditional checks that must be made (many are done anyhow). The difference should not be very noticeable though in my opinion.
