Hum Posted January 10, 2017 Share Posted January 10, 2017 Suddenly my Windows 10 is not activated -- why ? I bought a genuine W10 dvd. It wouldn't reinstall when I added a SSD. techbeck Posted January 10, 2017 Share Posted January 10, 2017 Happened to me once on a SP4. Restored the SP4 back to factory defaults, didnt help. Only thing that worked was I had to DL a factory restore image from MS and that worked just fine. No idea how it because inactivated. The reason that I ask is that I've only ever seen it sold on a Microsoft-branded USB flash drive in retail packaging. Is there another version that's sold on DVD (System Builder, OEM, etc.?)? It would not accept the product key on the same hardware, save for the SSD. After a few minutes, a digital license took over. Apparently a DL expires after 6 months or something. If the MSA was a requirement, care to explain why 4 out of 5 of my machines, using local accounts, auto activate when connected to the internet? My memory is a little foggy, but I believe the digital license was generic across many computers that accepted the free upgrade. You dont want to enter that key in. I communicated with an MS employee via the MS website and they used remote desktop to check what was going on before sending me a brand new key. It was easy.
