Parasite
Hello people. In the next couple months i will be moving to Canada (vancouver or calgary). I was telling a friend about how i am going to ship a box with my PC stuff, This is when i relised the issue about the differnt voltages. I have a PC and Xbox that a purchased in Australia. What are the solutions to the voltage differnce. Adaptors? :ninja: Thank you.
xpablo
well you could buy voltage convertor , your PC should have a switch to switch from 240/220v -110/115v if not then I just buy another power supply once here, as for the xbox well i dont know if the have a switch either, but you can get voltage converters. iMonkey
If you would like to buy any new XBOX games, you will have to buy a new XBOX aswell, (unless your current XBOX is modded) because the North American's use NTSC on their TV sets instead of PAL, and the graphics decoder inside the XBOX is NTSC. Jason the Eighty Eighth
assuming you're staying in Canada permanently, what about your tv/fridge/other electrical appliances? for the PC, you should perhaps just sell your PSU and buy a new one in Canada. What are the solutions to the voltage differnce. Adaptors? :ninja: Thank you. First of all, in case you don't know, Canada uses the exact same electical system as the USA. For your PC. You can buy a 120v (or 110v or whatever they consider it) power supply for C$40 odd bucks and use it to replace your power supply if it does not have a little 120/240 voltage switch. Many power supplies in Canada have this option. Maybe you need to pay $5 more for it. I wouldn't bother sending over cheapo speakers with their AC adapters. I don't own an Xbox but they probably have the AC transformer as part of the power cable (y'know, a black box is part of the cable or the power plug). You can probably just buy a new power cable (and the included AC adapter) for your Xbox when you get here and use it with your existing Xbox console. Parasite
you should sell ur xbox while ur in australia and when u get to canada (welcome!!) you can buy a new one with the money.... Good idea but i dont really want to sell the current one, i've modded it up and it's not currently in a 'great' condition. For your PC. So if i switch it to v115 when i'm over there i will be fine? (with the appropriate cord?)Also i forgot to mention i have an lcd, i was thinking i could of pluged it into the back of the psu but the one i have does not have the extra port. So what would be the recommended solution for the Xbox and LCD? assuming you're staying in Canada permanently, what about your tv/fridge/other electrical appliances? I should be moving there permanently, but these are the only electronic's i'm bringing.

I'm not 100% sure but i dont think the Cable has an adaptor on it (it does has a small black round plastic thing neer the end but i doubt it is it) xbox uses a Psu simular to the pc iirc. Well thanks for the replies and info. Much appreciated. :) bedtime 2am :ninja: .

I doubt the Xbox uses much more than 50-odd watts and thus it doesn't need a big PC-style power supply.
xpablo
what you should get is a step up converter/transformer http://www.voltage-converter-transformers....ransformer.html do a search on Google for step up voltage converters.
Jelly2003
When you move to Canada see if you can buy a TV that has PAL playback, then you should be able to use your Australian XBOX. If you cant get one with PAL playback then look for somthing that will change a PAL signal to NTSC. Here is a link to a PAL to NTSC Converter which you can use on all your AV equipment (including game consoles) PAL to NTSC Signal Converter from LikSang.com Here is a converter to change the 110V into 220V Again from LikSang.com Remember unless you have some sort of Mod, that your XBox wont play Canadian games, even with the converter. Because by design a PAL Xbox will refuse to play NTSC games no matter where you buy them from.

Parasite
Well i'm back with some more information. I was just looking through the LCD manual where under 'Physical Characteristics' it says Operating Voltage Automactic Switched Mode Power Supply, 100-240 V, 50 - 60 Hz. Does this mean all i have to do is get a an adaptor and i'm safe to use it?
