I agree with the above.

Before my computer fried I had a 2500+ oc'ed to 2.0ghz, 1gig of ram, a 9700 Pro and those two games ran like crap while every other game I run is butter.

They seriousely screwed up while making those games it's not your system but sloppy programming.

download the Dx:iw patch and you will be fine, comparing those games to max payne 2 is unfair, mp2 was higly well progreammed and optimized

DE2 didnt run too bad for me (geforce 3 ti200)

but thats after i installed the v1.1 patch.. noticed a real big boost in performance

but halo always ran fine for me.. even when it was running on a geforce 256

That's because you used a geforce 3 to run Halo.

Where Halo screwed up was in the pixel shaders programming that handles the effects.

On his 9700 Pro it defualts to pixel shader 2.0 since that's the highest he has and should work best. Unfortunately it seems Gearbox didn't bother to do any kind of performance testing so pixel shader 2.0 runs like crap.

So he could drop to 1.3(or was it 1.4 I forget) But it runs like crap too.

You and other geforce 32 owners run it with pixel shader 1.3 effects and the game runs good with those effects you just lose quality.

If Halo defualted to using pixel shader 1.1 or even 1.3 on DX9 cards we'd all think the game runs great. There's a command line switch so that you can force whatever pixel shader version you want so even though he has a 2.0 capable card he can force it to use 1.1 instead but then you gotta wonder why get a bad arse card when a developer's only going to be lazy?

i got 2.8ghz p4 (800mhz fsb)

1024mb corsair pc3200

ati 9800 pro (420mhz core/about 735mhz memory)

and halo runned like this, played it for 10 minutes, about 19fps, and in combat i got 7fps

while deus ex 2 with patch runs very well now

and doom3 and hl2 will run better

I find anything on the unreal or quake engine runs fine

Other games can vary

For instance C&C Generals runs better than Red Alert 2

It gets weird because Ghost Recon which hasn't got very detailed graphics is very slow and the sound even stutters and thats on 800*600

But Raven Shield rund fine @ 1024*768

I just don't play the games that don't run well

"D:\Program Files\Halo\halo.exe" -novideo -console -screenshot -use14

-novideo = no intro movies

-console = duh

-screenshot = dug again

-use14 = use pixelshader 1.4

You have to change your halo shorcut. It runs fine for me with PS 2.0 Try a lower version of the Cats. I've heard about people not being able to play with the newest ones.

Tomb Raider - Angel Of Darkness?

Runs absolutely fine on my system if thats the game you are meaning.

Also, Halo runs fine on mine also.

I noticed alot of you having issues using Radeon graphics. Hmmm

Yeah, most of you guys seem to ignore the pixel shader part. Why do new games run like crap on new hardware but smooth on old, its because the developers failed to realise that pixelshaders arent optimised enaugh or the current range of gfx cards cannot handle games with pixelshaders. I bet if this guy ran Farcry beta it would still run like crap despite his 9700 pro. I think they should give you an option if you want to disable pixel shaders in a game or not.
