What can Linux add to my office network?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering what I could do with Linux and my office network. We've already have an IIS server with a bunch of database stuff on a Windows XP Pro box. I have an extra computer over here that I'm thinking of throwing Linux on it, but I'm not sure what we would use it for. Can I setup a domain with a linux box? Currently our incoming internet is through a 1.5 Mbit DSL line and its all DHCP/NAT stuff (Cisco 678).. but we have a domain name (office.wendellhull.com) and it "could" be cool if we had all the computers setup like mine would be "nic.office.wendellhull.com" and so on for each computer. Not sure what the use would be for this outside of having everyone being able to get to their machines via remote desktop. Not to mention this could be a big security hole..

Just wonder if you guys had any idea.

Thanks!

-Nic
