Did you know that Marjorie Merriweather Post (from Post cereal) donated the Mar-a-Lago mansion to the federal government in the hopes of it being a Winter White House but they ended up auctioning it where Trump bought it for $10 million. Successive presidents had no interest in using it, it was then returned to the estate years after that Trump bought it, and that was about 30 years ago. DocM Posted February 18, 2017 Share Posted February 18, 2017 (edited) Many presidents wanted to go elsewhere on vacations; Eisenhower to Augusta, Georgia, Kennedy to the family compound in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts , Reagan to his California ranch etc. That or they'd go to the presidential compound at Camp David in Maryland - which was also one of Franklin Roosevelt's favorite places.
