No Audio Output Device is installed.

Sound icon has a red x and gives the message 'No Audio Output Device is installed.'

Device Manager shows 'Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)'

It did have code 32 earlier!

I've reverted to a recovery from before the fault occurred but that didn't help.

I've reinstalled the drivers but that didn't help.

It all happened when I got a network glitch accessing a network drive. The problems started on the reload after that.

OK, so is the sound integrated on the motherboard, or is it a stand alone card? 99% of the time if it is an integrated one, it uses the Realtek chipset, and those seem to be updated quite a bit. I recommend using Snappy Driver Installer (SDI), this is a wonderful program that has an amazing ability to find and install drivers (including the obscure ones). Give it a try and see what happens.
