danbalsh
Danbalsh: Did you really say you made a "cute little song"? Cute? ;) What can I say.... I'm just cute  :ninja:
the evn show
I'm sold. We've got a management project where we have to produce a product and everything that goes along with it from documentation to the sales info. We wrote a version of "name that tune" similar to whats on the iPod but with multiplayer support. and it uses your iTunes library Anyway, for the sales pitch we're going to bash out a few commercials and generally do really push the low budget angle and go for cheese factor. Now I think in addition a 10 minute infomercial with custom music is going to be a great addition. Keynote for the speech, iMovie to clip video, keynote for presentation graphics, omnigraffle for flowcharts etc, GarageBand for the soundtrack and some sample tunes, iDVD to burn the whole mess. I feel like that kid in the saturday night live apple parody; "Macintosh Jr. The power to crush the other kids" :) http://www.uriah.com/apple-qt/snl-macintosh-jr.html
shodan
There's one thing I'd like to know, since I haven't iLife yet :(, I have a bro of 14, and he is the one who mostly will use Garage Band, he is a guitar player ;), does it came with a paper manual, or with the online help? My bro would love to know it, because he's not friendly with online manuals.... thanks...
HuRR
I got iLife last night and the first thing I did was play around with garageband. I had a song going in a couple of minutes. Then I made some porn music for my friend. iPhoto is really nice , extremely fast. iDVD and iMovie I have never used =(

But to be honest, you really don't need a manual it's so simple and straightforward :) just plug and strum

NeoMayhem
Wow, garageband is really a nice app, Software instruments dont work at all on my G3 though, but anything using loops is perfect which is mostly what I wanted to do.

Tim Dorr Veteran Posted January 18, 2004 Veteran Share Posted January 18, 2004 I just tried out GB in the Apple store tonight. I must say, I'm was very impressed, but I was also a bit confused at first. I had some trouble getting used to the interface at first (the eye icon for sound effects? WTF?), but I had it down after a little while. I'll have to purchase it on govt. discount soon, as I had some geniune fun with it, and am looking forward to cranking out some kickin' tunes for my radio show :)
Dazzla Veteran Posted January 18, 2004 Veteran Share Posted January 18, 2004 I have to say though, what the hell was apple smoking when they decided to add WOOD to the interface, looks hideous!
Chad
Let's just hope WOOD isn't the new Brushed Metal. Ghastly!!! :)

Tim Dorr Veteran Posted January 18, 2004 Veteran Share Posted January 18, 2004 I have to say though, what the hell was apple smoking when they decided to add WOOD to the interface, looks hideous! Well, the main mixer we use WREK looks disturbingly similar to the interface of GB. I think that's what they're going for :)
suntzu
What are the differences in itunes? I will probably only use itunes, and iphoto.
danbalsh
itunes is version 4.2 which you can download freely, the only difference between 4.2 and 4.1 is that AOL Users can now use the MusicStore.

Yeah, I hate the interface, I wish I could change it to Aqua :( Even brushed metal wouldnt look bad on this app....
Elliott
Well, the main mixer we use WREK looks disturbingly similar to the interface of GB. I think that's what they're going for :) Exactly. I don't mind it. It's quite original, and sets GarageBand apart from other applications. In this case, it looks like a tool in real life that does the same thing as it. Very good idea on Apple's part, IMO. Superfula, of course it's not the new brushed metal. I'm guessing it'll just be GarageBand only, or maybe some other audio apps that Apple releases that do mixing, but it seems like GB and Soundtrack are the only ones (and Soundtrack already uses the Pro Kit, IIRC). Tim Dorr Veteran Posted January 19, 2004 Veteran Share Posted January 19, 2004 Yeah, I hate the interface, I wish I could change it to Aqua :( In /Applications/Garaage Band.app/Resources/ you've got dfleft1.tiff, dfleft2.tiff, dfright1.tiff, etc. They're just a bunch of .tiff files. Go nuts :D
