Ji@nBing
I work at a pet shop too :D, anyways aspen also is very good Yep, aspen is good too. However corn cob and hemp seem to be the best. BTW, what pet store do u work at? I work at one of those big chain stores but i'm thinking of leaving for a small local one cuz they would be more focused on taking care of the animals than merchandising and sales. Also i don't feel i get enough one on one time with the customers at my place. I actually get yelled at for spending too much time helping customers with thier plroblems, would u believe that? It's all about merchandising and sales and it drives me INSANE, lol

Lazlo Woodbine
If I had just payed a bit more attention and spent a little more time with him. He might have needed more social interaction or something? No. Your guinea pig almost certainly had an infection and needed to see a vet urgently for antibiotic treatment. Had you got him this treatment as soon as possible that he might have survived. But either way, he didn't die a cruel or painful death. Don't fool yourself; gasping for breath because of a respiratory infection is a very unpleasant way to die. :(

Both cedar and pine shavings contain phenols (a type of chemical) that have been shown to cause damage to lungs (cedar has more of these than pine). Pine and cedar should never be used to keep animals on. Pet stores ought to be responsible and stop selling these materials, but that's never going to happen is it? :(
uniacid
yeah its not eating it, its breathing it thats bad, I work at a local pet shop, non chain but I'm thinking of leaving and getting a valet job b/c I work almost all week except for 2 days till 8 pm after I get out of school and I'm dead tired, so I'm considering leaving b/c I could also make much more in valet and work less days

pctuk
Exactly, I'm hardly an animal lover (in fact I'm quite the opposite) but I do like people - causing them misery by gloating over their beloved pet's death in certainly Not Cool.

If you don't have anything nice to say then don't post. 1. Prompt treatment might well have saved the animal's life. 2. He did not take the animal to the vet for that prompt treatment. 3. The animal died an uncomfortable death. 4. Hopefully there's a lesson learned here about the need for prompt veterinary care. I've lost two pets (hamsters) of my own in the last 6 months, so believe me I am sympathetic to the upset that the loss of a pet can cause, but I won't let that stop me pointing out irresponsible ownership. Lazlo Woodbine
He's dead :( :( :(I just checked him now and he's gone. There really wasn't anything I could do, I mean, he wasn't just sniffling, he was like half dead when I started this thread. I was pretty sure I was losing him. I'm very sorry that the guinea pig died. :(

If he's fourteen and neither of his parents are home to take the kid to the vet, how the hell is he suppose to get there? 45 minutes away is a LONG walk. It seemed like there was no way to get him there. I have compasion for him, as I've raised guinea pigs since I was 9. I lost my first three within two weeks of each other because they caught a cold and the vets didn't help. That was terrible...doing three funerals for 'em only two weeks apart. I had broken my collar bone at the time, and I was out in the yard digging craves because I was so ****ed I didn't care about the pain in my shoulder. I have five now, though. They're healthy and happy...but I have to give them away in three weeks because I'm moving and I wont risk them dying on a 8 hour plan trip because they're so small. Anyway, I'm sorry man...you did what you could. Dont listen to the ###### on this thread. Your lil buddy is in a better place now. -holds a minute of silence-
