dosemu on debian

Recommended Posts

Okay I installed dosemu on my debian system using apt-get install dosemu.

Due to the wonders of debian it automatically downloaded the source, any required dependancies and compiled the application and created a little icon for me.

That's all fine and dandy but it produces an error something to the effect of operating system not found.

I've looked at the HOWTOs and FAQs on DOSEMU but I'm a bit of a Linux noob. I can't seem to find the answer to, what I think, is a bloody simple question. Does the thing require a FAT partition? I got the impression that you can create a virtual FAT partition on your linux drive. I guess I need to reread those docs to see if I can figure out how to do this.

For those that like to see the big picture. I'd like to get a DOS prompt from within Linux to test a DOS-based point-of-sale database system for compatibility. It's one of those compiled Clipper/dBase IV things.

There is also another system called Bochs (or whatever). Is that a better way to go?

Thanks in advance,
