Welcome To Xbox Live !

Recommended Posts

For those of you that have an Xbox and have never tried Xbox Live you now have the perfect opportunity. In this months OXM (Official Xbox Magazine) they have included a free two month trial for Xbox Live (credit/debit card required) and their monthly demo disk has two Xbox Live demos, the first being Return To Castle Wolfenstein Tides Of War and the second being Crimson Skies High Road To Revenge.

These are both great games, in Crimson Skies you can dog fight which is a ton of fun and in Return To Castle Wolfenstein you have a great team based game which really shows off what Xbox Live is all about.

I'd be pretty stoked about it but I already have two Xbox Live accounts, for those of you that don't have one go out and buy OXM, it will be the best five bucks you've ever spent.

Not only that but there are other game demos, trailers, downloads, a Halo 2 video, and of course the magazine !

i think ull hear every single one of them, its like having a bunch of people on the phone

ex. i call someone, then i call someone else (3 way), then that person calls someone else (their 3 way) and so on. but when everyone talks u will hear them all at the same time i guess thats how it works

Well not everyone talks at the same time, I don't own Rainbow Six 3 just yet but I've rented it and it's a great Xbox Live Game, just like Return To Castle Wolfenstein is because it's a team based game.

Edit: I'm not sure I understood what you mean but you can hear all then people talking if they all talk at the same time, of course not everyone talks at exactly the same time, additionally I believe teams can be split into different voice channels if you wanted them to be, I know on Return To Castle Wolfenstein there is a general channel, channel A and channel B.

so i guess if someone decides to spam the entire voice chat with explicit words, theres nothing anyone can do?

Players can be muted individually and players can also be banned from most matches if voting is enabled, additionally feedback can be left for players who do such things, with them getting warnings, temporary suspensions, and if necessary permanent suspensions from Live.

 It's a great system.

It really is the best online gaming around, even if you are charged a small fee yearly (less than the cost of a game)

The friends list is another great feature, you can have up to 100 (200?) friends on your list, and it will tell you if they are online, or offline, and if they are online it will tell you what game they are playing, no matter who made/published it, and you can either go and join them, or invite them to play in your game. You can also check your friends list from the xbox.com site if you don't want to boot up your xbox to check it, and eventually there will be a msn plugin.

Around april, Xbox live 3.0 is scheduled to launch (as a free upgrade, it is a constantly updated service) and should be adding the option to leave 15 second voice messages on invites, or send a small text (possibly preset) message as to why you are inviting someone to a game, or declining an invite.

Xbox live 2.0 was another big update a while back, which added the option to create a chat room for your friends if you don't feel like playing a game, the friends list checking via xbox.com, and a new interface for the xbox live section of the "dashboard"

sounds great to have...

It is, and it isnt. You have to pay for games that are just going to be played for a few months until the next big thing. At least with PC gaming you have mods that will extend the life of the game (Just look at HL, if no mods were made for that it would have been gone ages ago).
