cdcase
its too confusing...All that spinning and stuff. Its going to add too many layers of learning between seeing the computer and using it. If it was truly holographic it would be differnt, as it would more closely approximate our real world, and our minds could wrap around that easier. flat monitor 3D stuff would be more confusing. I can hear all the questions now from the users - "how do I unspin my webpage, where did my notes go, I lost my file when I rotated it, my application is hidden...." blech. Something I'm sure many encountered when first using a mouse and gui. This is progress and it's exciting.
slapnuts_ox
i think that looks simply amazing. one of the main flaws people find with linux is the GUIs and feel they are not modern enough. once this is released all linux needs is a standardized installer to make the instilation and removal of programs easy and MS will be in serous trouble. Vidar
OK, $50/per desktop/per year.. To run an OS.. Linux.. $0/per desktop/per year. Microsoft Windows XP.. $199/per desktop. Period. Sun needs to change is slogan to "We take from everyone else and put a butterfly on it so we can charge more" -- Sorry, not impressed.
Shining Arcanine
I think the poll needs another option: I like it but I'm not going to buy it Since that is what I am going to do. Even through when I was younger I thought all computers worked like this from what I saw in movies, I rather use Windows XP. Btw, I think that would go nicely with a 3D screen. A 3D object represented on a 2D screen isn't as impressive as when it is represented on a 3D screen.

It is my prediction that Microsoft is already working on a similier thing for the new windows GUI which hasn't been shown yet. Well, that's not true; a little has been shown in the amazon.com video (amazon search windows rolodex style).

It is my prediction that Microsoft is already working on a similier thing for the new windows GUI which hasn't been shown yet. Well, that's not true; a little has been shown in the amazon.com video (amazon search windows rolodex style). We all know MS is gonna do this someday. My guess is , its gonna be called Longhorn , and will be available introduced to us around 2007-8 , when the norm PC will be 4 GB Ram and 20 Ghz CPU cycle with R500 ATI card. What sun has done with this is , show the future to us though on a less scale and has caught MS with their skirts down . MS must really sping up now , get its skirt on and stop thinking of Milking XP and 2003 till 2007-8 and get Longhorn out fast .. I am hoping for this , this is the thought that cheered me up when i saw GLASS demo  KYRO. Edited January 17, 2004 by kyro
QuarterSwede
2007-8!? You have to be kidding me. The projected date is '05-'06 They also rewrote how windows draws on screen images which has already, in the tests, dramatically improved performance. You will need a decent graphics card to take advantage of the new look but anyone with a GeForce or Radeon card is ok ... and how cheap are they? someguy123
it does look impressive, but for what reason does somebody need to position their windows awkwardly in 3D space and flip it upside down? that's just dumb... I think they should put thier minds to USEFUL functionality. agreed.

mcnelson
I like the look, yes. I don't like the price, especialy since Mandrake 9.2 cost me $0. I'd buy it for a one off price, yeah, but not an annual subscription.

MulletRobZ
That's pretty damn innovative. I think I'll get that when the final is ready and it may become a real match to compete against Longhorn.
