What's the penalty in UK

Recommended Posts

Just been bounced because of a dumb friend who had never been clubbing before, and who showed his underage ID...

I don't have one (because i easily look 18 anyway) but do any of you guys know what the penalty is for having a fake ID and using it to get in a club? I know that in the states it's up to 1 year jail, $5000 and a criminal record, but what about UK? the net isn't giving me any results.

Also, what do you think about this whole thing with faking your age to get in a club/pub, i mean surely it's wrong, but seeing as everyone does it..? you opinions. Thank you.

IUn the states no one gets in jail or that much fine.

You get a citation and will have to go before a judge. No jail time. The fines are about 300-500 and you get your drivers license provoked for a 3-6 month period. Now this is the usual case but could be more towards your number for EXTREME curcomstances.

Now as for the UK...beats me

no the bouncers didn't care they'd have let me in just they couldn't let him in because it could lose them their jobs i understood perfectly that, and i thought there was no point going on if he wasn't going to. I don't drink much anyway, never more than two beers, reasonable is enough for me.

Still doesn't anyone know about UK?

I've never heard of anyone here in the UK being taken in by the cops just cos the bouncers sussed their age.

I'd guess most of the time the bouncers would tell the person to just shove it.

As you've already mentioned, cops would be involved if somebody tipped them off about serving drinks to the underaged.

Assuming the bouncers didn't take your friends ID card or force him to give them his address etc then how could they track him down to grass?

nah what i'm asking isn't the penalty for going in a club underage, it's the penalty for forging an ID (eg photoshopping a scan of your passport, and then saying that you don't carry it with you cos it's too dangerous if it gets stolen etc.) that interests me.

Basically, i'll reword my question: what is the penalty here in central London (UK) for scanning your passport, changing the date of birth, and then printing it out and using that as fake ID?

Very serious, its tampering with an offical document. Like for example all the asylum seekers or immegrants who have fake passports. its a very serious offence but i dont know exactly what the pentaltys are. Forgeing an offical document.

Yeah that's what i thought, anyway i never get IDed just my friend looked young :p oh well. It's not worth getting one if thepenalties are so harsh really, just move on to the next club/pub :p

There's no real problem with having fake IDs, when I was at school, everyone had them. Loads of people (myself included) would get kicked out of pubs etc when bouncers or bar staff cottoned on that we were all about 15... and we never got in any real trouble for using fake IDs. Just thrown out and barred.

But messing with your passport? That is a SERIOUS offence, and something you should never do. That document is the damn holy of holies... a british passport is one of the most (if not the most) sought after passports to own in the world, and they take it VERY seriously when people **** about with them. I think you could be looking at up to 5 years inside, plus a hefty fine if I'm not mistaken.

Basically, fake IDs are fine, just don't muck about with your passport.

There are 2 very separate issues here. Forging official documents may result in some serious incarceration at Her Majesty's Pleasure... however, ask yourself this: Is a bouncer going to take a look at your your forged ID, in dim lighting, notice that its fake and then hold you whilst people who are dealing with violent drunks turn up to arrest you?

Instead, as has been said, he'd just take a crappy fake ID off you and tell you to "**** orf mate, yer name's not down an' you're not comin' in". Embarrassment sets in and you slope off in front of all the lovely ladies.

Whenever I've been out in the US, me and colleagues have had to take passports out with us at night, even though we are all pushing 30. It's plain ridiculous and borne out of a litigious society if you ask me.

As for going out in the UK, well, don't be lairy, dress well and you might get away with it, if not try the local 'offy' and a 2 litre bottle of cheapo cider in a local park. ;)

Haha, you could ask random people in Southampton if they knew where Fareham was and they'd just look at you with a blank face. When I was 16 we'd go out every Friday & Saturday with Fake ID's trying to get in Ikon or Jumpin' Jacks, worked most of the time :D

they tend to just take the id off you...

if you're a girl tho, and clubbing in central london, and look 16+, they tend to let you in so that they maintain their girl:boy ratio...

ive never had mine taken off me, bouncers down here seem to do the opposite and let blokes in but be really tight on girls (must be all gay or summin). one of my m8's "acquired" someones driving license so he has real ID

Fake ID's are fine (well you might get a 'slap on the wrist') as long as they arn't forgeries of official documents such as driving licence or passport. Once you are inside a pub or club, it is the bouncers and owners that get in all the legal stuff for letting you in if you are cought by the police or something: it's not your fault for going in, its their fault for not stopping you :D

I am sure that has been said before, but I couldn't be arsed to read all the other replys ;)
