You can now convert your physical movie library to digital through your smartphone

Vudu has offered its Disc to Digital service since 2012, but the company is expanding on those efforts by making it even easier to convert your old titles into your new digital favorites. The firm is now allowing its customers to utilize its service via their mobile app available for Android and iOS.

In order to start taking advantage, you will need to download the Vudu app to your supported smartphone, sign in, and then you can start scanning the barcode of titles you own. In order to prevent any funny business, the app will require your smartphone to have its GPS enabled to confirm that you are converting titles from your home and not the local Target.

The service offers 8,000 movies that are currently supported and will cost as little as $2 if you want to convert your disc to a similar quality digital version, and $5 if you want to upgrade. For example, if you convert a DVD or Blu-Ray to its equivalent variant, it will cost $2. But if you want to upgrade your DVD to high quality (HDX) digital, it'll cost you $5. Luckily, if you are a current Vudu user, you will get one free conversion. There will also be a limit of 100 discs that can be converted to the service per year.
