Problem with Kyrocera Hyrdo Reach (Boost)

My roommate has a brand new (~30 days) Kyrocera Hydro Reach that she bought from Wal-Mart to use with Boost Mobile. Just now she shows me the phone that indicates a headset is plugged in,(2.5 mm) but she does not have a headphone plugged in. She tried plugging in a headset to the jack then removed it, but it still says that it is connected. When she makes calls she can not be heard on it, because it has disabled the microphone.Does anybody have any ideas on how to fix the phone? Or is she best to contact Kyrocera and RMA it?
