Remote
So this has been a common issue these days and I decided to take some mesures to protect myself. About 10 minutes ago I went to the post office to ship something and charged it. My recipt that they gave me to sign had my card number, name, exp date. Anything they would need to use my card on the net. So upon signing the reciept, I scratched out my card number and exp date. Leaving my name, the amount of money and my signature Well this lady went off on me and said I cannot do that beacause they need my number for their records or something. I feel like she is completely wrong. She made me refund that charge and recharge me.. Dont I have the right to scratch out that number on the reciept? NeoSigma
One reason you shouldn't scratch out the number is sometimes on the reciept everything looks fine but the cashier charges the card twice by mistake and at the end of the day when they try to balance the amounts they realize they screwed up, look at the reciept and oops, you scratched out your number so they can't refund the double charge. Also a lot of online stores that accept credit cards ask for the CVV number on the back of the card for extra security and now that verified by visa is out, shopping online is a bit more safe (atleast for visa clients). But that wouldnt happen. You would see it on the reciept or you would get 2 reciepts printed out.

Remote
It happens. And when it does I have my bank statement to verify that I was charged twice. They will have computer records as well. I dunno, i just think I should be able to. I need to know if I am allowed to.
AgEnTsMiTh
IT happens VERY offten. Never scratch that number out. ALL Online retailers ask for the last 3-4 digits on the back of your CC when making purchases to verify your the card holder etc. And some retail walk in outlets use this as well. Also, MANY stores do an imprint of the card itself. Honestly, its for your own protection to leave it alone, also if you take a card in looking like that, it appears fishy. Another point, they are not going to accept a card that they cant even see the exp date on. Being in business for myself, If a client used there CC with me looking like that I know I would not accept it either. cut it up and order a new card. Miyagi Son
dont worry about it. There is this program that u can join it only costs like 10$ a year and whenever a new account or anything new involing credt cards etc.. will be mailed to you. And if you did not open that account then you were scamed. Also dont worry about the credit card thing, i at work have over 1000 credit slips every day ( i work in grocery store) everything has to be accounted for. And yes i could copy down your info but i would also need a street address and try to read your sloppy signature.

If you are listed in the phone book. you dont need to be a mastermind theif to find out your address. Hell, google it.
