AshMan
I found some AVIs on a CD but I can't seem to play them. As soon as I launch them, Media Player tries and fails to download the codec. I think the files were encoded using the HDTV ccodec. Can anyone advise ?

0 morganpugh84
HDTV isnt in any specific codec however I assume that it is in either DivX or XviD. These are MPEG4 based formats. You can use FFDShow-Alpha to playback however it is possible that it has been encoded in the newly release XviD pre-1.0 beta builds which do not playback with FFDShow-Alpha very well. Here are links to FFDShow-Alpha and XviD... FFDShow-Alpha Koepi's XviD Codec 1.0 Beta 3 Build 26122003 (via BetaNews) btw depending on the resolution of the video you will need a pretty powerful computer to playback. As an example a 2Ghz P4 system with 512MB RAM is recommend as the lowest spec system to be used.

0 MxxCon
in the future if you have AVI file that you can't play, get GSPOT, it'll analyse that file and will tell you want you need to d/l to play it
