x-byte
I got my Radeon 9800 Pro yesterday and I allready love it. Been using Nvidia since Geforce 2 GTS, replacing my Voodoo 3 2000 :/ Go ATI! (Y) To bad some people is having trouble with the 9600 :(
nekrosoft13
ati might be a little faster but nvidia got better drivers, and my next card, nv40 if it will have pci express x16 support, i might return back to nvidia. i really hate ati drivers, and dual monitor support its horrible compared nvidias
Blues
I too have a 9600xt, and was always a n avid nVidia user. But I havent had any problems thus far with it. My apologies to you if you do. Try crabbing the catylst drivers, or doing a format and fresh install. I didtn have any problems with mine before, nor did i have any after though. rushers38
Also it could be a AGP settings problem. The nvidia default setting in your CMOS is 4X. If you have a 8X aAGP card it will cause minor problems like yours because you are basically using half the capabilities. Check your CMOS and see if it helps. I almost went to ATI, all for the Half Life 2 coupon with the XT's. But then I saw benchmarks (and my brother's machine) putting the NVIDIA against ATI. On Tom's Hardware guide benching with Call Of Duty...with AA and AF turned off (which I do anyway, prefer frames to prettiness) the GeForce 4 ti 4600 pulls slightly ahead of the 9600xt. Ati wins hands down for antialiasing and anistropic filtering, but I wouldn't use them even if I had an ATI. My logic is that Call Of Duty uses the Quake 3 engine, and counted up the number of games that use it (A LOT!). Then I counted the number of games that use the upcoming Source engine (which is meant to be primed for the 9600xt and 9800xt), which was 2 (HL2 and the new vampire game). I much prefer Id as a company, and they have their unholy allegiance with NVIDIA (like VALVE have their unholy allegiance with ATI). Also, all Unreal Tech developers have allegiances with NVIDIA.....I go with the NVIDIA from a developer's point of view. If the creators of Quake Technology and Unreal Technology (the two most sucsesful game engines of all time) prefer NVIDIA, then so do I. /end of rant
rstroud
If the creators of Quake Technology and Unreal Technology (the two most sucsesful game engines of all time) prefer NVIDIA, then so do I. Not to burst your bubble, but the reason they prefer Nvidia is because Nvidia decides to give them large amounts of cash for that pretty "The Way It's Meant to be Played" logo. Before you accuse me of fanboyism, I am impressed with many of their offerings, but I just chose ATI this time. Both companies have strong points... On to matters at hand... I'm using the 4.1 catalyst drivers and have had no problems at all. Everyone rants and raves about how horrible ATI's drivers are, well, I think that's a thing of the past, I can't see what the big deal is. Just think of how many people (like myself) have 9x00s and aren't having problems at all. And as for dual monitor support, I've got it...hydravision works well... Better drivers, well, that's your opinion, but both companies have put out awesome features in their drivers.

ANova
NVIDIA has better AF?News to me  Got any benchmarks for me? Not distrusting you, but you've peaked my interest. They don't. Nvidia doesn't even have af. And no, ATI doesn't need alot of work on their drivers. Sure the interface doesn't look as pretty as nvidia's but the GUI isn't what matters to me. Oh and chode. Doesn't it make sense that a video card that performs a negligible amount slower then a ti4600 but at the same time offers much better image quality as well as being dx9 compliant make a difference? It does to me. Sure the Geforce 4's are good cards if you don't care about what I said above.

Whiteraven_Ex
i kno ati cards do preform better in certain areas of gaming but i wud hav to say that nvidia cards are more stable and reliable, i wud hate to see nvidia fall right behind from ati cards, that wud juz be sad,
Chode
Nvidia doesn't even have af...... Sure the Geforce 4's are good cards if you don't care about what I said above. Check the attached screenie, NVIDIA does have AF... and no, it's not unique to my card, even my ancient TNT2 had AF on it. And it's not a "hacked" driver or nothing either, it's the official Forceware 53.03 set of drivers. If you didn't buy into NVIDIA because someone told you they didn't have AF, then you were lied to. Research before you post such things, duder.
nekrosoft13
in your opinion. in my opinion, i think ati's are better. i recently switched from nvidia to ati myself. yeah in my opinion ati really lacks in dual monitor support

isus
i use 4x aa and 8x af on my card. makes everything look nice :) the drivers with ati have become much nicer than nvidia's recently... even the problems i thought were ati's fault, were just my computer overheating with no fans on
