New iPod Advert - Music

Recommended Posts

That is all the music you have? Madness. I have 110 gigs of teh music ;)

What did you use to make the list, Ill make one of mine, that would be fun :D

Now if only Apple used good music in their ads, or if only the general public liked good music. I am not sure if that song has one original sound in it, it's sampled from a million other things. Fun fun.

"Did mommy buy you a [turntable] for christmas?"

They didn't carry the remix of rock star.

Also, I can't find feature cast on cdnow. The only "channel surfing" i know of was done by (IIRC) fatboy slim: it had a 1960's funk sound.

Im saying how no one in America or anywhere seems to know what music is and it's troubling. I was making fun of the band in the advert by quoting hackers and changing "puter" to "turntable."

The whole point is that music like that has been done, and been done better for a very long time. Pick up any breaker tape and you'll see what I mean. That is if those boys are still around selling tapes anyway.

Oh the days gone by, and yet to come. Long live the underground, if it even exists anymore.

So America is ruined because he can't recognize a song from a commercial that's from a genre that he may not be familar with? Can you Identify shakespear by two line quotes, or all the classing movies from the 20s/30s by "famous" scenes? Can you tell me who/when painted any given peice of art or who designed the couch that Fraiser sits on? People have different hobbies: you need to learn to deal with that.

What's worse is that when someone shows even a slight intrest in expanding his musical experience you come in and bash on the guy for 1) not knowing the song and how it's a ruining the world, and then 2) that his musical taste is crap because it's not "original" enough.

next time try something helpful:

that song is "Channel Surfing" by "Feature Cast" according to Apple (link to site). You can find it on the Album (x) which you can buy here (link to online store). If you like that sound you might like <song x> by <band y> on this cd (link to online store), they sound similar but have done that sound better IMO because <list reasons>.

Oh the days gone by, and yet to come. Long live the underground, if it even exists anymore.

If your attitude is representative of "the underground" (whatever the hell that is) then I hope it dies a quick but painful death. The mac forum has enough problems with elitism.

I wasn't making fun of him for not knowing the song, I was saying that it would be nice if Apple had GOOD music on their ads. Very different. The problem is that no one listens to what people are actually saying, they just decide what they think people said so that they can make a point that sounds like they are "owning" someone, when in fact they are being retarded.

All I meant to say was, I don't want anyone thinking music like this is creative or original b/c it isn't, and it isn't done as well as other things done before it in a similar style.

It's like calling Electronica Techno, when Techno is a type of electronic music, or calling house and trance the same thing, it all drives me crazy. it's like thinking Blink 182 is a good band, all sorts of things in this world that are scary.

If you don't see my point it's b/c your trapped in the illusion MTV and the public media feed you, and perhaps you will never escape. Maybe you don't want to.

I know you feel like you destroyed my point, but that's because you don't even know what I was saying. Maybe someday you will, it's a refreshing world "down" here, but it certainly shows the public madness for what it is, lies, corruption, theft and falsehood.

Also , I did put a link to my Itunes library, so as far as recommendations go, that's a good place to start. It's got most of the stuff I like, sans the things I have not gotten around to recording off my vinyl yet.

EDIT: I'm willing to take this thread to PM though I think we might have already destroyed it.

don't want anyone thinking music like this is creative or original b/c it isn't

Who are you to decide for someone else if any given song is "Good" enough for them to like? Who cares if they think it's original and witty. Every artist brings something to the sounds they mix together, from the techno covers of old Classical songs, to modern dance songs that draw on melodies from mid-century pop tracks.

I admit I'm drawing the conclusion that you think the song apple selected isn't "Good".

And because nobody likes songs they think are bad - you're not-so-directly saying he's wrong for liking that song.

If that's not what you're saying could you please post your meaning in more direct words.

I don't want anyone thinking music like this is creative or original b/c it isn't, and it isn't done as well as other things done before it in a similar style. Very different.
Who cares if it was done first. If the guy likes the song who are you are I to tell him that his choice is crap or that the song isn't creative. Even having heard thousands of rap songs I couldn't write one that sounds half good - even if I ripped off Dr. Dre's beats, 2Pacs lyrics, and Jazzy Jeff's "oh yeah" and "come on, get down" side-kick lines.
and it isn't done as well as other things done before it in a similar style.

If there are better songs/artists/whatever in that genre then make us all better by pointing them out to us. I may not like what you suggest but it's only going to cost me $10 and a few minutes of my day to find that out. If I do like it then I've got a bigger/better music collection and more experiences to compare/contrast other songs with so I can enjoy my existing collection even more. It's all win, no lose! When you come in here ranting about how crap-i-ful a song is and how much better "the underground" stuff is nobody wins (except the company selling neowin bandwidth for these posts).

it's like thinking Blink 182 is a good band, all sorts of things in this world that are scary.
As opposed to thinking <whatever you like> is good? Keep your taste out of my ear: you don't see the blink 182 fans flooding this place to disparage your choices, why can't you do the same?
If you don't see my point it's b/c your trapped in the illusion MTV and the public media feed you, and perhaps you will never escape. Maybe you don't want to.

Oh right, I don't agree with you because a big media is brain washing me. Of course! I see the light. Praise Morphie the internet prophet who has pulled the blinders from my eyes and ears! Fie on the MTV! Get behind me Universal/Records! I cast thee out Eminem!

Are you sure you don't want to blame this on aliens, jews, illuminati, or some other phantom organization with an evil plot while you're at it? What if MTV was in league with the communists...

Also , I did put a link to my Itunes library, so as far as reccomendations go, that's a good place to start ... sans the things I have not gotten around to recording off my vinyl yet.

Thanks for pointing it out - though it's a little much for us to go through to find something similar to this is isn't it? And I really like the way you gave a nod to vinyl. You're not going to start bashing on people for liking compact disks or MP3 because they lack "warmth" now are you?

You're from America, so that means you must fall under that category
it's like thinking Blink 182 is a good band, all sorts of things in this world that are scary.

Are you saying that you think Blink 182 is a bad band? I swear I saw a CDs worth of songs on your playlist.

If you don't see my point it's b/c your trapped in the illusion MTV and the public media feed you...

About that comment. Yes, I know MTV isn't as great as it use to be, but there are a few singers/bands in your playlist that gained a lot of exposure because of MTV. Does that make you "trapped in the illusion MTV and the public media feed you?" Not really, but that does mean you like a band that's had its career helped by the spawn of Satan.

I did, though, see a lot of great music in your playlist.

Of course. Vinyl is good because of it's warmth. For example reggae dub is 400x better on vinyl. ;)

Anyway, you did well. You made some good points and made me sound quite the jackass. As far as who is better in that style, I can't exactly say because I for one don't listen to that kind of music all that much, and when I did it was on random tapes that I bought off people outside of clubs, or heard in a friends car or something.

As far as Blink goes, I have Chesire cat in my playlist for nostalgia. I used to listen to that CD all the time, and it's good for what it is, one of the first teen angst pop-punk CD's. When I said Blink I meant more their newer "I wish i was still a teenager" music, but that's an entirely different thread.

Of course there is some music I have that has something to do with MTV. MTV used to me music television, not Reality shows mixed with spoonfed pop classics of the week.

Again you did bring out how I should have said things a little better, I just get so angry when music like this gets all this "wow" because it isn't doing anything new, and it's just using hooks that destroy music like "oh yah" and such, it hurts me deep in my music loving soul.

As far as trying to get anything along those lines, I'd just go straight for the breakbeats, or acid jazz. Say something like MJ Cole, Xploding Plastic, Dining Rooms, Mark Farina, Herbalizer, or Greyboy. Not exactly the same thing, but as close as I usually care to get to such things.

Or if you want to hear turntablists rockin it out check the greats in that catagory, Q*Bert, Dstyles, Rikki Rucker, etc. etc.

Just because music may be your hobby morphie doesn't mean your taste is everyone elses. In fact, there are probably many people that think the music you prefer is unimaginative, uninteresting and just plain sucks. So teacher, leave them kidz alone.... :&: :punk:

Well put. that is what the etc etc is for. I just rambled a few off the top of my head, there are plenty more ;) Koala being one of them.

And in response to the underground madness, I am sorry i ever used that term, I just meant "non-spotlighted." I am just amazed that so much quality music is left unseen by the masses.

Every night there is amazing music being played and very few seem to ever hear it.
