First Build - Thoughts?

Recommended Posts

Good morning,

I've always thought it would be cool to build a PC, but never found the need. I've always used laptops and found that any gaming that I did, I used my Xbox. My wife wants to get a desktop and I thought it would be a perfect excuse build a PC. Build is fairly budget, but I'd like to be able to run a few games (nothing triple A). She'll mainly be using it for her design software/light Photoshop use.

Any thoughts/recommendations? Ideally I'd like to keep the budget to around £500-£600. All of these are listed from Amazon for ease, but I'll shop around to save a few quid where I can.

Processor - Intel G4560 @ £64.99

Motherboard - Gigabyte DS3H @ £69.34

RAM - Kingston HyperX Fury (2x4GB) @ £55.97

GFX Card - EVGA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti @ £149.99

Case - CoolerMaster N200 @ £44.74

Power Supply - Corsair CX450M @ £48.39

SSD - Samsung 850 EVO @ £83.45

Total - £517

So yeah thoughts! Also I'll be using a 1TB HDD that I have lying around.

I suggest to change the Processor to Core i3, rest is good to go.

I did consider this, but looking online there seems to be marginal improvements over the Pentium for circa £50 extra...is it worth it?

There's no SSD in that build, which I'd like adding that, makes the price start pushing the top end of my budget :(

Thanks both btw :)

Yes, that's worth it, but on the other hand, AMD is much better option.

Considering that I've upgraded both the processor and the video card, I have to cut corner somewhere

Intel Pentium G4560 -------------------> AMD Ryzen 5 1400

Geforce GTX 1050 Ti --------------------> Geforce GTX 1060

Solid State Drive -----------------------------> Hard Disk Drive

Did you noticed that I also upgraded (the build) from Geforce GTX 1050 Ti to Geforce GTX 1060?

Yes, I did, GTX 1050 2GB will be sufficient, as he mentioned, not meant for triple A games.

Honestly, anything below the Geforce GTX 1060 is awful for gaming.

I would gladly give up the SSD for the Geforce GTX 1060.

1050 is not really bad,

I have 1050 ti and Im satisfied with its performance over 1080P in games like Witcher 3, Doom, Just cause XL with High details.

I'm not sure on the 1060, but will definitely look at the Ryzen instead, but again there's a significant price difference :p

lol who does that...

The 1050Ti is fine for gaming especially with the CPU he is selecting.

OP, change the drive to a M2 SSD though.
