Layout icons invisible when using Darkside theme

On the front page I prefer to use the Darkside theme, along with the List View layout. For some reason today the layout reverted to the default Tile layout. I looked and looked for the icons to change it back but couldn't find them. I noticed however that if I change to the default theme they show up next to the 'Send News Tip' button. Switching back to Darkside the buttons are still there, but they're grey on grey.
