How to stop Hiccups?

Recommended Posts

Swallow a spoonful of dry sugar, or a spoonful of peanut butter

Take a glass of water, bend over forward and drink the water upside down

Plug your ears and drink a glass of water

Simply holding your breath.

Hold your breath and pass your arm behind your back, and pull it with your other hand while you hold your breath.

Breath in and out 10 times into a brown paper bag. Make sure there is a good seal around your mouth and breath HARD. Your face should be red when you are done.

Pull hard on your tongue

Lift your uvula with a spoon. Your uvula is that thing that hangs down in the back of your mouth

Simply gargle with water, add a little salt if you like.

Suck on some crushed ice, try a lemon wedge or a spoonful of peanut butter.

Try taking ice right to the problem area. Place an ice bag on the diaphragm, just below the rib cage.

Tickle them and tell them not to laugh. Tickling may change breathing patterns and stop the hiccups.

Take a cotton swab and rub it on the roof of your mouth at the point where the hard and soft palate meet.

Force a belch and cough without inhaling. This requires muscle control.

Rub the belly button, pressing inward gently as the hiccup occurs. This may 'catch' the hiccup.

Mind control. Think about when your next hiccup is coming.

Have someone scare or startle you.

Pinch the back of your shoulder until it hurts.

Close your eyes and press your eyelids gently.

Sit back, and put full concentration into thinking about something, and do that for about 2 minutes. DO NOT think at all about the hiccups, not even to ask yourself "Did they stop?".

That works for me.

As for the hiccups, you can just forget about em,drink some water, or a nice trip to neowin always solve mine :).

this thread is awsome... there is like a different method for everyone.

I always took a glass of water and a spoon, turned it upside down and put it in the glass, then put the spoon to my nose and drank the water as fast as I could. for some reason this worked, I see it on *sigh* Oprah when i was like 10. Usually I am too lazy for all that, and wait to see if they go away naturally.. or go for a run works too, cause your body is lazy and wants extra air/exercise. (appearently)

hiccups have evolved over a long period of time, from when we were water breathing creatures. They serve no purpose to us, but to fish a "hiccup" is basically how they take in water and shoev it out of their gils and keep the oxygen. Or so scientist said a while back. :p

Slit your throat, works for me.

Really though, try drinking salt water, then making yourself throw it back up.. Could work.
