Am I screwed?

Recommended Posts

Ok...so..um...where to begin?

It was late, I was a bit..umm...excited?, and I'd just finished watching "the simple life". Long story short is I downloaded what I thought was going to be a certain, infamous tape involving paris hilton in various states of undress.

Well I did, and I double clicked it but it was a trick because it wasn't a video.

It opened up a little program. I've attached a screeny.

Is this a virus? I haven't noticed anything odd happening....yet...

The file was actually Original Paris Hilton Sex Tape.mpg.exe

Does anyone know anything about this?

Thx,

nerd-inside.tk

 lol stupid.

Turn file extensions on in windows... and ALWAYS check it before you run it :)

I'd update and run Ad-aware and Spy-Bot and a good Anti-Virus program to be safe.

Also as mentionned check msconfig for anything weird looking :)

Well Just don't worry dude.....

It could just be some stupid program some useless/jobless jerk created.

*. Since its actually an exe file, Its surely installed itself, registering itself in the Windows Registry. First thing to do is to look for the same in the Add/Remove Programs, in the Control Panel. Once you locate it, just uninstall it.

Hint: You'll be able to identify the program if you look for something that sounds very familiar to Paris Hilton or whatever it says in the Window Title Bar that comes up.

*. Then look for the same name (as found in the Add/Remove Programs list) in the windows registry (Start>Run, Typ Regedit in the "Open" box), in the file menu on top, for Registry Editor, using the Find option, found under Edit in the File menu look for keys with that name & delete any that you find.

*. Search the Local drives for any files or folders (as found in the Add/Remove Programs list) and delete them completely from the system. Restart the system. Your issues should be resolved

Make Sure you have some latest Antivirus & firewall installed on your system.

PM if this works..

man, don't tell the guy to muck with his registry or delete things when he doesn't know what they are he will FUBAR his computer...

1) backup everything you couldn't live without (ie porn :D ) sorry couldn't help myself

2) get a firewall and turn it on

3) run an anti virus (update defs first)

4) run adaware (update defs first)

if everything is clean you should be good to go

So you downloaded from a file-sharing network and didn't scan it?

Then it was an exe and you ran it?

And you have no virus checker?

Man, I wish I were as cool as you. Gotta have balls to do that kinda thing!

No and sorta.

Norton Antivirus 2002 does nothing in regards to spyware, at least last time I checked. Norton Internet Firewall 2002 should prevent spyware calling home or from downloading additional components, but it won't remove the spyware itself or detect it's installation. Just use Ad-Aware.

I wouldn't like to click the link until reliable anti-virus program has been installed onto my comp.

Someone said Spybot... um, the free version of it might screw you first before virus touches upon you!

Everyone is laughing because of the file type... which is true.... but what i'm wondering is didn't the file Size of like 50kb give it a way... or how exactly big was the file?

and for a pointer.. kazaa lite by default puts the title first.... so I would you arrange your columes starting with File name... then file size.
