suntzu
My new G5 just came! SO new in fact it is still running the initial software update!!!! So, I get the box, crack it open. Then I thorw it up on my desk and pop the side panel off. WWWWWWOOOOOOOOOWWWWWW! I am in the I.T. filed and this is the most impressive thing I've ever seen. So the first thing is add 1.5gb of ram(2gb total), an airport extreme card, and an extra 250gb hard drive. And just like I expected everything worked perfect on the first boot. I felt like I was 5 years old on christmas!!!!

SFNE Freak
Congrats indeed. I would've sacrificed the 250GB HD for the Dual 1.8Ghz price increase. ;)
digitaljames
Take the apple ram out and install the crucial ram in the inner slots first. Put the oem stuff in the outer spaces...per the apple support forums. Also, remove the clear plastic material and tape from the inside of the removable door. Congrats! Chris Allen Veteran Posted January 20, 2004 Veteran Share Posted January 20, 2004 That's awsome. Congratulations on your purchase. (Y) I run a G5 at school with 250GB HD, Dual 1.8 Ghz, and 4 Gigs of RAM. Pretty slick I say.
trikster
I wish I could afford a G5. Hell, I wish I could afford any Macintosh without feeling ripped off. :hmmm:

nazgul
Yeah... Apple could make so much more money if they could figure out how to cut their prices...

BroChaos Veteran Posted January 20, 2004 Veteran Share Posted January 20, 2004 shutup about the prices. find a pc that performs that well for that price. it's pretty much even, or the apples are cheaper.

suntzu
It is the single cpu version. I got too good a deal due to it going EOL. How long should it take to partition a 250gb drive using mac os extened file system? It has been going for like 25 minutes and it hasnt really moved in a while. Tim Dorr Veteran Posted January 20, 2004 Veteran Share Posted January 20, 2004 I don't think it takes that long... You can stop it and start over, though. It won't cause any problems. Oh, and you people just don't know how to get your Mac's cheap. Refurb prices: Power Mac G5 1.6 GHz 256MB/80GB/SuperDrive/GigE/56K $1,399.00 Power Mac G5 1.8 GHz 512MB/160GB/SuperDrive/GigE/56K $1,699.00 Power Mac G5 DUAL 2GHz 512MB/160GB/SuperDrive/GigE/56K $2,399.00 :p
