Online Games for Narrowband?

Recommended Posts

Ok 56k then.

I used to play Counter-Strike, but i wont go into that. Since 1.6 arrived its been pretty much a no-no with STEAM. Its all moved towards broadband - Which is great, if you have broadband. ;) Unfortunatley not so great if ur stuck with a 56k connection because u happen to live in a more rural area.

Anyhow, CS was pretty good on Modem. I got a challenging and mostly fair game (even against people on Cable etc) and it was fun. Now im looking for something to replace it as single player games are all well and good but they last about a week MAX if you play them slowley. I tend to complete games in days lol ;) The only thing that took me longer was DiaboII where i deliberatley took my time and played through the original and LOD version. Man that game was sweet.

Yes well, im looking for 56k friendley games if such things exist. Not talking online pool here or something ;) I mean something like Counter-Strike maybe or another decent MOD for Half-Life thats popular and requires skill (not like those silly HL PONG games and such ;)) ??

Suggestions appreciated. :D

Natural Selection, a mod for HL also (current version, 2.1, does not use steam officially so plenty of WON servers available), is a great game to play multiplayer. I played it when I had dialup and I had no lag issues whatsoever and I used voicecomm and all.

my worst multiplayer experiences were with Quake 3.... after railgunning myself in the back 6 times I proceeded to kick the game case into pieces...before calming down and never playing it online again.

I still haven't completed the HALO demo - and I started that when it came out!

Yeah, Quake 3 is NOT 56K friendly. I used to play Team Fortress Classic mod for Half Life on dialup just fine. (But that was before Steam)

no aimbot, just weird lag issues. I'd fire any gun, and the projectiles would fire 3 seconds later. So I'd be chasing someone, railgun fire, keep running, blast in the back. :(
