and the point would be what?

and no, the plugin takes no noticeable extra resources. perhaps 10kbytes of ram... but hell, maybe that's a tad much. excuse me mr "i run some odd taskbar-plugin that takes half the resources instead of the tray-version which takes nothing".

telia is my isp, my ip would be 213.67.39.219... so?

11671986 is my uin... what's your point?

Hmmm, let's compare Apples shall we?

ok, is the dock an enhancement? no, i believe it is not... that's one thing.

one more; is a laggy gui an enhancement? no, i believe that isn't either...

IF I understand this correctly, you believe that

1.) The dock is not an enhancement.

The OSX dock is an enhancement, let me explain. Not only does it act as a dynamic taskbar and quicklaunch bar, it allows realtime previews of all open documents, icon sized, at a glance.

Imagine if you would an OS with no taskbar, no desktop app launcher for quick and easy access to yo' stuff. These 2 enhancements are felt to be so very important that every major OS GUI manuf. includes these items as standard on the desktop. Windows, X-windows, OSX, QNX and BE included. So while some people may not find these items to enhance their experience with an OS, I do.

2.) Laggy graphical user interfaces do not enhance a users interaction with an OS.

You would be correct. However, I have to wonder why ANY application available for an x86 personal computer would be 'laggy' in todays market of inexpensive hardware. This isn't the thread to go into why you're running a Celeron2 (what are you thinking?), but anyone can upgrade their system to handle any of todays apps for minimal monies.

This isn't a flame, but I really want to know; are you having some sort of system configuration problem that you need help with? Is your video card lacking in some area? Maybe you've just used bad skins...

I'm sure we'd like to help you if we could...

Personally, the only thing I like about Apple is the Aqua icons, other than that, the GUI sucks. Maybe it wouldn't look so ugly if it didn't have those damn ugly stripes. Now, there is nothing wrong in making your PC look like a Mac - if you don't care about system resources and if speed and performance is not your primary concern, then go ahead but personally, I like speed and all that crap you people install on your PCs to make it look like a real Mac slows your system down. I stick with regular, good ole visual styles, but Object Bar, Window Blinds and other 3rd party crap like that can stay away from my system because all that shi%$#@ does is slow your computer down and what is the point in having a fast machine running slow just to make it look like a Mac? If you people like Mac's so much - Buy one.

It's amazing how a lot of you people criticize Apple and Macs, yet you all crawl over each other just to make your PC look like one.

For some reason there is white crap around the mac icons ported for xp...makes em look really bad. Anyway, how did you get your recycle bin to look like that without the white aura around it? Thanks for any help.

Could be a couple things. Make sure your desktop isn't locked. Its under display properties/Desktop tab/"customize desktop" button. Make sure desktop items isn't locked.

When using these icons you have to be using 32bit color. 16bit color will produce the white around the icons

Oh and scorbing, it doesn't slow the machine down enough to notice. I use objectbar, windowblinds, and windowfx all the time and I notice no system slowdown at all. They USED to slow the system down...maybe you need to update your knowledge a bit

They don't slow down your system you say? - OK, take a look at your system resources without all the gadgets on and then turn them all on and look at your system resources again and tell me if there is a difference or not.

I have no idea how to make icons. I got that Bin from a web site, on a package (zip). I got over 3000 icons here:

Just because something takes up ram doesn't mean it slows the system down. And there is a difference between noticable slowdown, and unnoticable slowdown. I notice no difference whether i'm running all that stuff or not. In fact, using benchmark software made by stardock for benchmarking skins (which nvidia and ati use to benchmark and improve drivers), using a WB skin results in a better score than using the windows classic theme.

Well anything is better than using MS's own skins. I don't use them. I use Styles XP. Microsoft's skins suck.

My system specs:

1.4 Gig AMD Athlon

512 DDR RAM

64 Meg SDRAM Radeon

30 Gig WD Hard Drive

Windows XP Pro with hacked uxtheme.dll

However, you can OSXise your desktop without using anything but the hacked uxtheme.dll. I use nothing... Neither objectbar nor wblinds. Just installed once this CursorXP demo app, which now I don't like and removed it...

P.S. Just finished encoding another DivX movie. While my PC was encoding the movie, I was using it as in regular basis... ;)

the dock is a lame copy of a taskbar, all documents look the same, the icons even have that old mac-bug where you can click THROUGH the invisible areas of an icon... thing with the dock is that is still blows the icon up to "selected"-size, so you really don't know if you CAN click or not...

well, i'm pretty sure that's an enhancement. if not, it adds a little bit of fun to the os with it's witty little games.

cheers.

1.) Regardless of how you feel about the dock, it is still a tool used to enhance the desktop.

2.) If skins are dragging you down, get better equipment.

:)
