Why does my PB sleep after one minute...

Recommended Posts

Okay, what I want is pretty simple. I want my 12" Powerbook to wake up at 5:29am on particular mornings of the week and run a shell script I wrote at 5:30am that repairs my disk permissions and writes a log. The shell script runs fine. So does the crontab if I set it to any 'normal' time when I'd actually be using the unit.

The problem I have is that if my machine wakes itself up at 5:29am as set in Energy Saver, it only stays awake until 5:30am before it puts itself back to sleep. I know this because the next time I wake it up, the clock shows 5:30 for half a second until it updates.

This in spite of the fact that I've explicitly set in Energy Saver for the unit to sleep after 15 minutes of inactivity, not 1, and for the display to sleep after 3 minutes.

So, if those are my settings, why would my Powerbook be putting itself back to sleep just one minute after it wakes itself up?

BTW: Yes, I do leave the screen up. I put the unit to sleep using the power button :pinch:

Powerbooks are set to fall back asleep if there is no activity for 1 minute after waking up. Try this, set you powerbook to have a password after waking up. Then put it to sleep, wake it up and let it sit there without entering the password. 1 minutes later it will be back asleep. I am sure there is some script or hack you could use to get rid of this setting. I think that it is more for people with desktops maybe in case the machine gets woken up accidentaly, it will just go back to sleep after the minute instead of waiting for the full 15.
