Is tracking PDF usage possible?

Hi, is there a way or software that I can use to track PDF usage?

 

My company makes monthly PDF reports and sends them through emails to organizations, and the email gets forwarded around the company. We would like to see information to see how often the PDFs are opened and read, and for how long.

 

Any advise in this regard would be appreciated,

Not sure if PDF's have the ability to "call home".

 

Could you host the report on a website and track usage that way?

only way i can think of is using device and data control in something like your corp security suite. But thats a massive undertaking for 1 task. Primortals suggestion is a good alternative.

That'll take a while for us to implement. It's a long term goal as of now.
