dangkhoa
Sorry to make a new thread for this but i'm looking for a quick answer and google is failing me. I need to rename a Windows 2008 Server. When i run the command: NETDOM computername WIN-6OOT64WJGEP.domain.local /add:WESTIE.domain.local i get the error: Unable to add WESTIE.domain.local as an alternative name for this computer, the error is: The computer rename preparation procedure is available only if the functional level of the domain to which this computer is joined is Windows Server 2003 or higher. The main DC is windows 2000 server.
StrikedOut
Looks like the only way you will get his done is to take it off the domain, rename it then add it back. It requires domain function level at 2003+ but your DC is only 2000. You are also going to be quizzed about upgrading that old 2000 DC too, years out of support so is a security risk plus you are missing out on some very useful features.
