New build i7 7820X

Intel is not going to say outright, "You need liquid coolers" because it would offend partners that make air coolers (e.g. Noctua), but it's very telling that Intel tells review sites that it recommends using liquid coolers.

So you cannot backup your claim that Intel said it.

I guess I will then refer back to my real work experience as the answer. Air cooling works fine as long as you don’t want to overclock.

Thanks for all the answers!!!

Ok so I've decided:

i7820X

Asus Prime x299-A (The deluxe doesn't add anything I'll really use)

Samsung 960 Evo 250GB

Not decided:

Cooling, I'm so lost on this, so much to choose from :\

It seems Corsair Hydro Series H115i is good?

Memory, Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4-3000MHz CL15 ?

PSU still looking at so much reviews and choise :\

My last build was 6 years, was so much easy :\

I will say that I trust sites like Ars Technica more than I trust you.

So you are saying that the sites I quoted lied.

You said Intel said it. You've yet to prove it. Blogs repeat what other blogs say all the time, it’s how bad info gets out.

I trust Intel more than you and them and you provided no source to back your claim.

I am done per request of OP.

Guys please help and let it go :)

Sorry.

Back on track, if you want a more silent build or want to overclock, go with water cooling.

Mockingbird I'm also using all the info you have posted to guide me, so please help me out :)

What do you about Corsair PSU? 850W?

What do you you recommend for water cooling? I'm no expert, so something easy to install, :) also not really into leds, it would be just there...

The problem with Skylake-X is that intel uses TIM which is very inefficient in transferring heat from the die to the heat spreader.

Skylake-X's predecessor's Broadwell-E uses solder, so it doesn't have this problem.

https://www.extremetech.com/computing/252354-investigations-sheds-fresh-light-intels-x299-overheating-problem-implicates-skylake-xs-design-well

This is in addition to the problem of X299 motherboards having inadequate VRM cooling.

The Corsair Hydro Series H115i will cool that processor.  If budget is of concern ... you could look at some of the fine Noctua coolers (for half the price)....or even the cooler xendrome posted earlier (which is rated for 180 TDP).

The only *real* problem with air coolers is you want to make sure everything fits (i.e. the heat sink doesn't conflict with the RAM, case, etc).  Anyway, if you're on a budget and aren't overclocking ... get a good air cooler for half the price of a water cooler.  Having the air circulate (with an air cooler) might also help keep the VRM's cooled.

I have no problem spending 100/150€ on a cooler, if that means lower temperatures overall :)

So the Hydro is a good choice?

How do I know my case supports adding it to it?

Something like the Corsair RM850i is totally fine.

As for liquid cooler, I would recommend a 280mm AIO liquid cooler.

You can also de-lid the processor.

Ok, it does bring all the connectors for the Aus prime x299-A motherboard and in case i buy a 1080ti also right?

I'm sorry guys but I'm really out of the loop on all the modern stuff :\

Any AIO rated for it from Corsair would be fine. They are really easy to install. I myself use an h60i on my 7700k and idle in mid 30s but I don’t overlcock.

I have never used one, but I hear good things about the Corsair Hydro Series H115i Extreme that Jim K. talks about.

As for the case, it just need cutouts big enough to fit.

Yes, that's correct.

Ok so Corsair RM850i Full Modular it is :)

So decided:

i7 7820X

Asus Prime x299-A

Samsung Evo 960 250GB

Corsair RM850i Full Modular

Corsair Hydro Series H115i

Still a little undecided :

RAM, wiki says the i7 uses DDR4 2666, can I use DDR4-3200MHz without overclocking?

One other thing I want to mention: Intel X299 uses quad-channel memory.

I can't use just 2 sticks?

Holy crap, I can't believe in 6 years I'm so out of the loop :woot:

Any specific reason why that CPU? Just curious. If anything you should get a lower CPU like the 7700K and double the ram to 32GB, you said you were running 2x VMs

You should probably get a memory kit that comes with 4 DIMM rather than two kits with 2 DIMM each.

A memory kit with 4 DIMM have been tested to make sure that each of DIMM works well together.
