I'm not sure if I'd be allowed to upload the other image to this public forum thread.

So I won't.

There appears to be a note on the table near his feet. No idea if it actually is and if it is what it says though.

He also had video cameras inside the room and outside of it..

I've held off on posting on this but frankly, after seeing a clip from Sean Hannity last night saying he was disgusted at the Left for trying to politicize this, I feel the need to vent haha.

I also have a friend who was in the very hotel that the shooter was in that night.

Frankly I'm just upset because every time there is a Terrorist attack where we learn that the attacker was Muslim / Islamic, there is a sudden rush on the right to talk about the Wall or a need to rid the world of this hatred, Fox news does this all the time and so does Sean Hannity. Look at what Trump did with the last London attack before the facts were even out. Yet when this kind of stuff happens we can't have a talk about what we can do to fix this.

Evil is evil, every country deals with it in some way, but why is it here in America it seems so much worse. Is it the 2nd Amendment or is our society here so polarized now?

I just hate that we can talk about how to fix terrorism and Radical Islam but yet we can't even have a talk about how to fix the issues of evil in our own country.
I hate that we spent more time last week talking about players kneeling in the NFL than how to fix this issue as well

Sure there are things we can fix with regards to the 2nd Amendment, legally speaking how someone can be able to purchase all the weapons and ammo this guy had baffles me, but that still won't fix the core issues. It can curb it for sure.

As a country when are we going to have an open and honest talk about this and I'm not just talking about the gun laws, because that is just one piece of this larger issue

I pray for all the victims of this evil domestic terror, and a speedy recovery to those injured

There's a history of sometimes loopy pundits and bloggers from both sides getting credentialed. Why should today be any different?

If only he had fired that shot first.

Agreed! Unfortunately, some suicides like to take others with them. That or they kill others to start a suicide by cop.

Which actually brings up a question that crossed my mind; why did he shoot himself when he did? By all accounts, he had way more weapons (the 17 number has been raised to 20-something) and wasn't being raided by police at the time. He probably didn't have a realization of how horrible he is, since he spent a long time meticulously planning it.

Is that not an RPG in the first (or topmost) pic? (over his foot? I'm sure BBC news mentioned something about it)

No, that is an AR-15 w/ scope mounted on a bipod.  Gunstock is closest to camera ... barrel is pointed at chair.

I just double checked the website, it was explosives, (I could have sworn they said rpg)

meh - no biggie.

I had to go to ALex Jones' site to see the pic of headwound.  All of the Infowars tinfoil brigade were making a huge deal how the rifle was over his foot  - I guess they were trying to say it wasn't natural :/

I dunno.

I did see a note placed under a paperweight next ot the body , on the nightstand - I wonder if they will release what was on it

From what I've read, he was being raided. He had a camera set up in the hall way to warn him of approaching police, and he had shot through the door injuring an officer who was trying to get in.

>

Records from the Nevada Prescription Monitoring Program obtained Tuesday show Paddock was prescribed 50 10-milligram diazepam tablets by Henderson physician Dr. Steven Winkler on June 21.
>
>

Diazepam is a sedative-hypnotic drug in the class of drugs known as benzodizepines, which studies have shown can trigger aggressive behavior. Chronic use or abuse of sedatives such as diazepam can also trigger psychotic experiences, according to drugabuse.com.

‘They can become aggressive’

“If somebody has an underlying aggression problem and you sedate them with that drug, they can become aggressive,” said Dr. Mel Pohl, chief medical officer of the Las Vegas Recovery Center. “It can disinhibit an underlying emotional state. … It is much like what happens when you give alcohol to some people … they become aggressive instead of going to sleep.”

Pohl, who spoke to the Review-Journal from the Netherlands, said the effects of the drug also can be magnified by alcohol.

I seriously doubt that 10mg of Valium, prescribed almost 4 months ago, led to this evil person carrying out this horrendous act.  Also, only a 50 count you would run out within a few weeks (usually 2-4 times daily).

Though maybe he planned for and saved them for when he carried out the actions ... to be "numb" towards what he was doing.

As I noted above these guns are not things ordinary people can just go and buy. It takes time and a lot of money to get them if you go the legal rout.

All evidence seems to indicate this guy didn't buy his guns legally.

And modded them legally for automatic fire.

The terrorist fired, within ten minutes, at least 500 (my minimal estimate) bullets at the crowd of 22,000 people from a distance of around 390 yards (360 meters) using AR-15-style and AK-47-style rifles mounted on tripods and equipped with telescopic sights and bump fire devices.

re: the definition of terrorism

I've got a simpler one: if it terrorizes people, it's terrorism.

It's beyond horrible what those ten minutes meant to the victims and the survivors, what they felt.

527 injured!

I've actually got an easier one - despite the number of guns and ammo he had at his disposal, the entire rain of death - from start to finish was less than half a minute (presser from Clark County Sheriff last night)  Not ten minutes - in fact, not even ONE.  It could easily have seemed longer (time-compression during a firefight is a reality - too much eyewitness testimony from real-world firefights - so it seeming longer is not in dispute).  Earlier pressers point to his eating a gun (he had cameras on-site - analysis of that footage is doubtless ongoing - that will determine if he did - and which gun he ate) - he may well have stopped himself - which will lead to more questions than answers.  The "girlfriend" is currently in the Philippines - he had, in fact, recently wired a nearly-literal ton of money to her.  (Another possibility - manipulated by girlfriend? I have to throw it out there - it is certainly plausible.)  In fact, wasn't there a much larger - but scarily-similar - incident IN the Philippines (classified as a RGW (Robbery Gone Wrong) at MGM-connected Resorts World?

No, the police said he fired for 9 to 11 minutes ... no idea where you are getting less than a minute from?  He only stopped when the police arrived...

Diazepam (generic term for Valium) can (and has been shown to) have ugly side-effects (including hallucinations) - when mixed with alcohol (or not, for that matter) - if he had spent ANY time the day of the incident at the card tables, craps tables, roulette wheel - even at the SLOTS - he would be hard-pressed to avoid free booze - from beer to mixed drinks.  Back when I was a teenager (and thus before my first trip to ANY casino), I was - at one point - prescribed valium - my staying on it did NOT last long; I requested that I be taken off the stuff due to the side-effects (like being stoned); this side-effect is OFTEN exacerbated when mixed with alcohol (and it was part of what killed Janis Joplin).  You would NOT want to be on diazepam in a free-booze environment (such as a casino) - and he gambled regularly.

I stated where I got it (last night's presser from no less than the Clark County Sheriff).  The Clark County Sheriff's Office had people there (Mandalay Bay) already - it was SWAT that took the extra time - NOT CCSO.

Honestly? I haven't got a clue. I'm a software engineer living in the UK, this is so far outside my area of knowledge it's silly. I know it's not practical or sensible to ban guns in the USA (self protection from wildlife when out in the middle of nowhere for instance is one time when a gun is a sensible tool to carry). But many of the typical anti gun control arguments just sound like excuses so gun enthusiasts can keep their toys.

I'm not advocating for any particular solution. I'm advocating for all sides of the political divide to work together to find one. Having the President (be it Obama, Trump, or whoever) have to stand up again and again and condemn such violence yet not do anything to stop it... well, after a while it just looks like nobody cares, and words are just being used as platitudes.

The first step to a solution surely is for all sides to agree there is a problem that needs to be solved, and that all sides need to work together towards that solution.

Gotta give you props for being honest. This site is quite diverse between US and European readers (and elsewhere), and too often do we get people who try to insert what works for their country as a solution for everyone else. It's really a bad way to run things, given we all have different problems. (Y)

The drug trade for instance is still rampant, despite the "War on Drugs". This just makes me way more skeptical for imposing some sort of "War on Guns", as I know damn well many people will do whatever they can to retain their guns anyway. You couple that with trafficking which already exists, and you have to wonder what the goal is and how they would plan to make any sort of impact.

I do agree there should be some sort of legislation in place, but what exactly? And would that legislation have helped fight against a man who was clearly determined to carry out his "mission"? We're talking about a guy who not only snuck the guns in, but set up cameras too for that matter. 9/11 happened because of a bunch of terrorists with box cutters. There has to be some consideration for where we draw the line in these situations. Where, I too am unsure.

I know some people were talking about hearing what sounded like different caliber of shots. My only guess is they're hearing the differences between bullets cracking by them vs. the sound from the muzzle, since the timing would make sense.
