Branson's Virgin Group invests in Hyperloop One

The Virgin investment group has taken an undisclosed stake in Hyperloop One, one of several companies trying to create a pod-based transport system.

The terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

Virgin's founder, Sir Richard Branson, is joining the Los Angeles-based firm's board as part of the deal, and it is rebranding itself as Virgin Hyperloop One.
>
Hyperloop One recently tested a prototype pod in the Nevada desert, which reached a speed of 310km/h (192mph) within a 500m (1,600ft) low air-pressured tube.

Not even CLOSE to the first Virgin investment in wholly-terrestrial travel - or have we forgotten about (merely) Virgin Rail (UK)?

I'm doubtful that Sir Richard has any Virginities left (no - so NOT making a quip, let alone @ Sir Richard's expense); I'm referring simply to his investments merely since he made his first billion (dollars - let alone pounds sterling).

Hyperloop: Missouri speed route from KC to STL is top 5 contender, perhaps top 3

An official with Hyperloop One, which proposes building ultra-fast tubular transportation around the world, said that a Missouri route is a top contender for development.

Dan Katz, the head of policy for the company, told The Associated Press that Missouri is among the top 5 contenders, if not in the top 3.

The acknowledgment comes less than a month after the Missouri Department of Transportation and other entities said it would conduct a feasibility study of a Hyperloop track that would link Kansas City and St. Louis. Hyperloop One said that distance could be covered in 31 minutes.

Hyperloop uses electric propulsion to jet pods through a tubular track at high speeds. It is still in the testing phases.

Hyperloop for cargo?

Virgin's Richard Branson and Dubai port operator team up on ultra-fast transporter

DP World and Virgin Hyperloop One are collaborating to launch ultra-fast hyperloop for cargo.

DP World Cargospeed is designed to deliver goods at speeds of up to 620 miles per hour and link to existing roads, rail and air infrastructure.

Hyperloop is a super-fast ground transport method first envisioned by Tesla founder Elon Musk, which promises to be faster than air travel but also cheaper.

Hyperloop is the super-fast ground transport method first envisioned by Tesla founder Elon Musk, which promises to be faster than air travel but at a fraction of the cost.

Hundreds of millions of dollars have already been invested in designing these systems, and Virgin Hyperloop One is one of just a few companies racing to do so.

Chaired by Virgin Group CEO and billionaire entrepreneur Branson, the U.S.-based company will be providing the technology behind the project. DP World is its largest investor.

Dubai-based DP World is the Middle East's largest port operator and has a portfolio of over 65 marine terminals across six continents.

Arab Business...

Hyperloop CEO Rob Lloyd said a 10-15 kilometre demo track would be built first before construction began along the full route.

The partnership is currently looking at projects in India and the Middle East, but Lloyd they may also look to work in Canada and the United States.

"By the end of the year, I believe we could actually have three government-funded and supported projects underway, two of which could begin construction in 2019 and one in 2020," he told AFP.

I like this. It's gathering much more mainstream backing, both Governmental and Corporate. Win-win all the way around.

Ten years from now we'll be riding 'em. Can't wait. :D
