Huh?? You say that you are running 10.3.2, but then you complain that uControl version 1.4.2 is not compatible with 10.2.x? Did you bother to notice that it IS compatible with 10.3.2? I think somewhere in there you misread something. Quote from the above link: ReleasesuControl version : 1.4.2 Mac OS X version : 10.3.1, 10.3.2 binary : uControl1.4.2.dmg source code : ucontrol1.4.2.tgz Fixed the bug that wouldn't allow installation on 10.3.2, really this time. The dreaded bug where by settings were lost after sleep/logout/reboot/etc has been fixed. Modifier key to fn key remapping has been resurrected. Sean Gies contributed the inverted scrolling option for Scroll Wheel Emulation. Fast User Switching is now supported (Thanks to Alex Harper for the jump start code wise). Adam Megacz did the hard work porting uControl to 10.3, Panther. Note: uControl version 1.4.2 is NOT compatible with Mac OS 10.2.x and will probably cause a kernel panic if installed. OS X doesn't have a registry or anything like it, so no, no tricks like that are available. You pretty much HAVE to install software hacks like this to do what you are wanting to do. the evn show
but we do have preferences with un documented settings so between "defaults write com.apple.whatever" and using the property list editor you can unlock all sorts of cool features. TinkerTool works exactly this way as do many other programs. Haxies are another matter entirely. It's not a monolythic registry - they're XML formated text files in the library, but the end result is the same. Technically you're right: they aren't registry tweaks but there are 'work alikes' and i think that's all that matters.
