NinjaOfLove
I tried it and quickly got rid of it. It's actually very good; fast, stable, responsive. But it won't play me games. :( When I see a snapshot that supports 3d accel, I'll be on it like Woody Allen on a preschool.
Sparkler
(Y) i kinda like mandrake but i have a problem with *all* linux distro's please help. link to my forum post about that coming in a second:
markwolfe Veteran Posted January 23, 2004 Veteran Share Posted January 23, 2004 I found your post: here Looks like you have a connection issue on eth0, and it is guessing at an IP to claim since it saw no responses... However the 127.0.0.1 is reserved for localhost, and it should not be after that IP... Odd that it works one time and not another. Perhaps if you post your /etc/hosts file (and there are others we might need to look into), someone can see something wrong. for example, mine is: [mark@mjcomputer mark]$ cat /etc/hosts # Do not remove the following line, or various programs # that require network functionality will fail. 127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
computerchan
mandrake is too bulky I think... that's why I stick to Redhat then Fedora Core
Keldyn
mandrake is too bulky I think... that's why I stick to Redhat then Fedora Core LOL How is it "bulky"? Do you mean graphically or by the amount of software included? All of that can be customized of course. Linux can be made to look like just about anything and you are always given the option to install as much or as little as you like. One of Linux's major strengths is that it is hugely customizable. I haven't verified the system requirements for XP, but pretty sure that it can't do the same. ;)
computerchan
yes I think like this because I'm lazy to customize it well somehow I find redhat run faster than mandrake in my system, dunno why

I find that, out of the box (errr... .iso), that Mandy is faster. I have heard that it is pre-compiled for i586 (pentium) and higher, while RH/FC is still stickign to i386 and higher compatability. But, I have also heard that both distros will load the upgraded-compiled kernel if it detects a better CPU. I'm still a noob, and am not sure...

I have never done it (I don't own a DVD drive), but I googled for it before when someone else asked this question, and I think it can be done...
