Microsoft pulls support for Lumia 640 and 640XL

It seems that Windows 10 Mobile just can't catch a break even if its fate is all but sealed. In the latest blow to Lumia loyalists, Microsoft is dropping support for the Lumia 640 and 640 XL. This isn't new or even shocking as the company has been omitting devices since the first rollout of Windows 10 Mobile to Windows Phone 8.1 devices.

The Redmond company released the official list of the devices that are still supported:

  • HP Elite x3
  • HP Elite x3 (Verizon)
  • HP Elite x3 (Telstra)
  • Wileyfox Pro
  • Microsoft Lumia 550
  • Microsoft Lumia 650
  • Microsoft Lumia 950/950 XL
  • Alcatel IDOL 4S
  • Alcatel IDOL 4S Pro
  • Alcatel OneTouch Fierce XL
  • Softbank 503LV
  • VAIO Phone Biz
  • MouseComputer MADOSMA Q601
  • Trinity NuAns Neo

Interestingly, the last bastion of Lumias that came with Windows 10 Mobile - Lumia x50s, are still supported. However, it is anyone's guess how long that support will continue. Microsoft has been slowly phasing out Lumias from its portfolio for quite some time now and it seems the trend will continue until none are left.

This might even be the last Windows 10 Mobile update for the current devices, or ever. That said, the devices will continue to get security and servicing updates according to Microsoft’s Support Lifecycle policies.
