Entering UEFI (BIOS) firmware on Windows reboot

Hello,

I'm not sure when this was added to Windows, but I just noticed under the Fall Creator's Updates (aka Version 1709 aka Build 16299.15) that Shutdown (filename: shutdown.exe) now has a /fw switch.  Here's what the built-in help (/?) says about it:

/fw Combine with a shutdown option to cause the next boot to go to the firmware user interface.

I tried it on several computers (some ThinkPads, several self-built systems with ASRock and ASUS motherboards, etc.) by running "shutdown /fw /r /t 10" from an elevated Command Prompt and it seemed to work correctly on all of them.

Seems like a convenient option for computers where it's difficult to get into the UEFI (BIOS) firmware.

Regards,

Very nice find goretsky, thanks for sharing. Did you recently update your location info here on Neowin? I never noticed you were in Socal. I am in Orange County (714/949) area!

Hello,

That is awesome Goretsky. I know there are a few SoCal members, a meetup would be great! Thanks again for the things you share here on Neowin.

This command would be great for overclockers also.
