Google Pixel 2 XL gets the teardown and rebuild treatment

Today, the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL made its debut to retail. While you'll be able to head to Verizon retail locations and pick one up, you can also order them online or head to a Google pop-up shop in Los Angeles and New York. While you can get an impression of the device by checking out some of the reviews that are floating out there, it's also interesting to take a look at how the device is built.

The folks at iFixit have torn down the new handset and put it back together, showing off the internals of the Pixel 2 XL in the process. As you can see from the image and video above, each component was able to be removed neatly, except the display, which suffered a small fracture, which led the company to give the phone a repairability score of six out of 10. This doesn't mean that the phone is tough to fix, it just means it isn't the easiest either. While many of the components are modular, requiring only Philips #00 screws, there are some tight fitting cables that make the repair a bit more challenging.

If interested in the detailed teardown, be sure to check it out on the iFixit website.
