Hurmoth
Even though I'm new to the Macworld, I think even the biggest Windows fan can appreciate the advancements of the Macintosh January 24, 1984. I can't wait to see the next 20 years of Apple! Congrats Apple!

Congrats apple! :fun: Yeah I know, but I knew that if I didn't go on and do it now, I'd forget or not have time to do it tomorrow!
the evn show
It should be the 24th in austrailia. Apple has definetly come a long way. A few interesting moments. Here are the ones that stick out for me. 1) Using macPaint and the sliding puzzle game on a Macintosh Plus 2) Using A/UX on a Mac IIfx (back when apple really was faster than any other machine - bar none) 3) Connecting to the internet on a centris 650 - I bought one at a garage sale years later but she didn't work. 4) Making a movie using a Quadra 660 AV from starwars movie clips and some hand-held video camera work. I was also amazed how well wolfenstein 3d ran. This was when I first _wanted_ a mac, but it was still a secret desire. 5) Playing some kind of combination of Jezzball and Contra that my programming teachers kid wrote on a Power Macintosh 8100. 6) Not really a mac but...owning a Newton. Damn it was cool, I can't believe I sold that to buy a monitor. 7) Connecting to "the internet" on an LC. It was the first time I used a graphical web browser and the first machine I used to connect to/use anything other than usenet, ftp, archie, and bbs services. This makes me sound so old. 8) Not buying the 5260 LC as the first computer I paid for myself. It was really close between that, some other All-in-one system, the AST advantage system I bought, and the Packard Bell POS with a Pentium 60 I quickly upgraded to. 9) The PowerMac G3. Just about everything about it - from the late night infomercials to think different, to Independence day. Unfortunatly I was already into Linux and BeOS by this point. 10) the B&W G3. Well, she was pretty and the case was/is amazing. Ugly compared to the later G4s but still - It increased my expectations about the case/design/packaging of almost everything I bought. 11) The iMac - and it's dreadful craze. This one is really vivid because I went into the store to spend money. I was browsing about the new gear and started to watch the demo it was running. Everything was bliss until I tried to use that cursed hockey puck mouse. It was such an awful experience I swore never to buy another mouse. That day I went home with 2 12MB CreativeLabs 3D Blaster Voodoo2 cards and a Logitec Trackman MarbleFX. If it wasn't for that dreadful mouse I would have switched. 12) The Titanium Powerbook, Mostly because it's the first mac I ever owned (that worked). It became my primary computer, and on graduation day I'll be going the Dual G5 + Portable + cinema display route. I never thought owning a computer could be this good. 13) The iPod. Easily the best electonic device I've ever owned. I can't imagine not owning one. Again it's not really a macintosh - but whatever. Apple played a fairly major roll in my computing experiences - even if only the last year or two I actually owned one. Happy birthday Macintosh -> the world (specifically me) is a better place with you.

Southern Patriot
This makes me sound so old. I know the feeling. I've been working on/with computers longer than probably 75% of the people on Neowin have been alive!!

nazgul
I think even the biggest Windows fan can appreciate the advancements of the Macintosh. Can't argue with ya there... Macs are good for PC guys like me, always nice to know that whatever cool features they add will be even better in the next version of Windows

macster
For me it started with OS 7 in school I can still remember the trash can and the help bubbles. First was my brother's PowerBook G3 with OS 8 that i really started to understand the OS The old iMac hockey puck mouse is one big horror story Until now i still think Apple needs to design a two button mouse with a scroll wheel though i am quite used to using keyboard shortcuts and i can use my logitech mouse on it OS 9 was average Then came OS X, watched my first Steve Jobs keynote. Saw him demo Developer Preview 1 with Aqua, big blue X, genie effect and all that eye candy and it got me really interested. And then I learn that OS X is not only about eye candy but also a very robust OS. Workflow and being more efficient using Applescript and how Apple can make a app that lets the user do what he wants without pulling his hair out And after 10.2 and 10.3, OS X is getting more polished both underneath and on the surface. Xcode is a good IDE. But a few things I think Apple needs to fix : More hardware testing ( i always dont first 1st gen Apple hardware ). Be more open to the needs of the market and a little more business sense like Microsoft and widen its appeal to more than just designers and geeks. The ipod is already a big step in that direction. and i look forward to 10.4 and beyond ;)
