rezza Veteran Posted January 24, 2004 Veteran Share Posted January 24, 2004 Hi all, I have a bit of a problem with my NWN Play disk. I used to have NWN installed fine, and it worked great. I have since got rid of it, then reinstalled it about a week ago. When I was reinstalling it, it kept hanging at installing the play disk, so i got the disk out and Lo and behold it was scratched :( Anyway, I managed to get it to install by copying the CD ignoring bad sectors, but that leaves me with a few corrupt files :( Now this isn't a problem in windows at all, because it just uses the corrupt files so some of the ambient noises are screwed, but since I've tried playing it on Linux, the corrupt files are a problem. The game just instantly crashes to desktop, and from the bioware linux support forums this seems to be because of the corrupt files. When I run md5sum checks on the files, I can see that the following ones are screwed (all from the ambient directory): al_cv_seweramb1.wav al_cv_seweramb2.wav al_mg_airlab1.wav al_mg_earthlab1.wav al_mg_firelab1.wav al_mg_magicint2.wav I have emailed bioware about this a couple of days ago, and I've received an autoresponse, but nothing else yet. I'm kinda hoping that they'll be able to replace my disk if i give them my cdkey... if not then i guess they're going to tell me to download the linux resources file (~1gig!!!!!) which contains all the data. I've decided to bite the bullet and start downloading it anyway, but on my 512k connection, it's gonna take all day. Anyone wanna help me out and host/mail/im me those files so I can play today? The reason I prefer running it in linux is because i get double the framerate I do in windows... and also It'd be nice to not have screwed sound :) thx in advance... rezza Veteran Posted January 24, 2004 Author Veteran Share Posted January 24, 2004 Thanks acidic & keldyn... got the new files and the checksums check out. My sound is now fixed (on both win & lin versions), but I still get an annoying crash to desktop error when certain spells are used (eg sound burst). Nothing shows up in the error logs, no message on the console, just blammo, instant exit. Ahh well, Time to email bioware again... might be a bug with the linux client. Keldyn
You are welcome. Perhaps some other files are corrupted?
rezza Veteran Posted January 24, 2004 Author Veteran Share Posted January 24, 2004 You are welcome.Perhaps some other files are corrupted? I don't think so, because all the other files check out against this md5 reference file... I'll play around with it and try to pin down exactly what actions cause the CTD.
