bigbeat808
I have noticed that there are several folder and files that have a . (dot) in front of them on my hosted website. I know the server is running Linux and assume that it is part of the OS. I know next to nothing about Linux. SO, can someone tell me what that . means? Thanks... Southern Patriot
A "." in front of a file name in pretty much any Unix based system means that the file/directory is hidden. If you are seeing those files, you probably have changed some setting somewhere that is allowing you to see hidden files.
bigbeat808
Would they be hidden even if it was your directory on the server? I ask, because I have not changed anything...
rezza Veteran Posted January 24, 2004 Veteran Share Posted January 24, 2004 It depends on the settings of whatever you're using to view the files on your server. A lot of FTP clients show hidden files by default, so that might be whats happening.
