Samsung details the Gear S3 Value Pack Update

The Gear S3 launched late last year - you can check out our full review here - improving upon the already stellar design and user-friendly approach that it introduced with earlier iterations. This year, Samsung announced a new exclusive TUMI Special edition of the device for $449.99, building on the iconic design of the Gear S3 Frontier.

The company has just announced a new update called 'Value Pack Update' for these Gear S3 smartwatches, that promises to improve upon a select number of features.

First off, Samsung revealed that workouts will be transformed altogether, with improvements on how the device tracks each session. The heart rate monitor's accuracy has been enhanced, and will now continuously give you feedback as you exercise. Beyond that, weight management has been improved, giving the user more control thanks to the Nutrition Management feature. Users can also add calories consumed during the day, and compare it against their daily targets.

The company also introduced a new Samsung Health Fitness Program feature, that allows you to watch exercise programs on a synced smartphone or TV, in addition to giving you the ability to control the said content from your smartwatch. Beyond that, your health data will be displayed on the synced device, negating the need to check the Gear S3 all the time.

Communication features have been streamlined as well. Users can now create a new contact right on their smartwatch, along with new events and reminders. Viewing, and editing checklists, along with video and web reminders are just a few taps - or twists of the bezel - away.

The Samsung Gear S3 has one of the most intuitive user interfaces available on a smartwatch today, and the company aims to make it even more seamless. With the Value Pack update, Widgets have been improved so more information can be viewed on the circular display. A new band has been added surrounding the said display, which shows specific information such as contact names, and weather information among others.

For those with several apps installed, scrolling through the endless list might just come to an abrupt end, thanks to a new feature that allows you to arrange them by 'most frequently used'. Information such as battery level and volume controls can now be accessed through a swipe up on the screen, and the Gear S3 app has received an updated interface as well, to complement the 'classic aesthetic' of the smartwatch.
