After months of speculation, it is now confirmed that Amazon is set to commence its operations in Australia on November 23, courtesy of an email which was sent to a seller.
Initially, the retail giant plans to start with an internal testing phase with a selected number of sellers. Amazon has sent out emails to marketplace users to get their product prices up along with the available stock in order to participate in the testing phase. Starting 2PM AEDT November 23rd, sellers should start receiving orders for products listed on the website.
The News Daily reports that it will be a soft launch on Thursday, followed by an official launch on Friday, just in time for Black Friday promotions. The publication mentions that Amazon will hold nationwide public marketing activities to mark its launch.
Amazon does exist in Australia, but the products are limited to e-books and Kindles. However, starting November 23, the website will sell everything, from clothing to stationery and lots more. The products will be listed by third-party retailers who will be able to sell their product in exchange for a commission.
