ultimate99
The laptop came with an HDD and I'm trying to install the recovery partition on to an SSD that has Win8.1 Pro already installed (retail). I created a Win8.1 Pro recovery USB using Lenovo's USB Recovery tool, however, when I restart windows using "Recovery" option, it says "Recovery Failed" immediately after initiation. I used a USB 3.0 16gb usb drive on the Thinkpad x250. Any ideas?
Circaflex
Do you absolutely want to use the Lenovo install to restore it? You can use a retail copy and install "fresh," while maintaining full functionality. Generally you just need to visit the OEMs website and download the drivers for a few devices, you can even do this ahead of time and keep them on a flash drive, along with their software. I can't tell you why it is failing, but that would be my solution.
goretsky Supervisor Posted November 27, 2017 Supervisor Share Posted November 27, 2017 Hello, Try wiping the SSD so it is blank and then using the recovery media created by the Lenovo ThinkPad X250 to reload the operating system onto the computer.
