jackwanders
This is my first posted suggestion for Neowin. Every day more and more people seem to be posting about their super-cool "x000 post" milestones, and everyone runs in to type their one word 'congrats'... Perhaps we could have a separate forum section specifically for these threads? That way the won't litter the general discussion area. Now people aren't even making the thread names descriptive, so I find myself walking into the thread and cursing the fact that I did. In case you don't notice, I'm not a big fan of these types of threads. If someone wants to congratulate you on wasting x amount of time on neowin (time well wasted, but wasted nonetheless), they can do it, that's fine. But to pollute the forum with a thread whose explicit purpose is to garner 'congrats'...well that's just attention-whoring. If they wanna keep on doing it, that's fine, but if there were a separate section for those threads, then at least everyone would know where to go. that's all. Thanks. RadishTM Veteran Posted January 25, 2004 Veteran Share Posted January 25, 2004 Wait a minute, so you're telling me that I've wasted 3 years posting away on Neowin?! :| Me is very angry with Neobond   Radish?
jackwanders
heh. hey, i've wasted a year myself :D i don't know, but posting simply to freak out about how many posts you've made? if someone wants to do it, alright, but i wouldn't mind if all those threads were sort of corralled into one easy to find (or easy to avoid) location. OrangesOfCourse
some are not labeled well... i think it would be better if they were labeled with a x000 in there some where.

They aren't that hard to ignore. I rarely post in them and they still don't bother me. Make another forum??? How much more general could you get for general disc. rpm
I agree and then just have it so that every thread made in there doesn't affect the post count rather than having the moderators have to turn post lock off for each x000 thread.
yanman
Simple. If you don't like the milestone threads, don't click on them. After all it's only words on the internet. If you do click on them, how much time of your life did it waste? I think a good suggestion would be, if whoever wants to create a milestone thread, they must contact a mod or admin and tell them. Then the mod or admin can add an icon next to the thread name to mark it as a milestone thread.

yanman
Yeah it does make more work for the mods. Or maybe the admins can introduce a feature when creating a thread in General Discussion there is an option to select "This is a milestone thread", therefore, the board automatically adds an icon next to the thread name. Redmak Administrators Posted January 25, 2004 Administrators Share Posted January 25, 2004 How many new milestone threads do we have daily? Is this amount enough to fill up a whole new forum? Don't think so :)

yanman
Yeah, I was trying to say that in my first post in this thread. But so many people have been complaining about it, complaining about those threads wasting their precious bandwidth or time.

Is this amount enough to fill up a whole new forum?Don't think so :) Since you asked... I just did a quick check but there have been 8 such milestone threads started in the last 5 days, and they've all been posted in within the last 2. That's not much different than say, the Drivers Drive-In section.
jackwanders
My god almost all the new milestones are being post count locked what more do people want. i don't have a beef w/ post counts per se. I don't care if the milestone threads are post count locked. i was just saying that i was under the belief that there were enough of them that they deserved their own section... OrangesOfCourse
i dont think they deserve their own section... just that they have x000 in them to make it clear that its a milestone thread.
