How much is it worth?

Recommended Posts

I'm very seriously considering upgrading my iBook to a Powerbook. So, I'd like to know what you people think I could fetch for this:

iBook G3

900Mhz G3

640MB Ram (upgraded from 128MB)

40GB HD

Combo Drive (DVD/CD-RW)

Airport Card

Lots of Love

I'm hoping something like $800 is reasonable (if the RAM and AP card is factored in), but let me know if that's too high. Also, if people want to buy it, just contact me :D Thanks!

Dammit, didn't the dollar just rise against the Radis:p??? :p

TimDorr, I think between 700 and 900 is likely what you will get so 800 sounds pretty good. I've seen iBook 900's go for 750 used with only 128mb RAM on CompUSAAuctions.com so you may even get more. Any software included? Good luck bro

Come on guys... It has to go for around 1,600.00....

Anyway why are you even here! Go do your homework and see what they are selling for at the auctions! This is an absolute waste of bandwidth, unless your willing to actually sell this thing here, which I'm sure your not going to do. On top of that there is no way I would buy this thing, unless I lived close enough to pick it up before shelling out any amount of cash for something that I couldn't verify its exisitance or fuctionality.

I take with me in a very nice leather laptop bag. I've been sure to not hold it by it's lower left corner (so, the display problems that people get don't happen). And I've had it since late October, IIRC.

Everything's up to date with it. It has iLife 04', Photoshop, BBEdit. All the good stuff, but I own the licenses for them. I suppose I won't wipe the hard drive if the price is right... :D

Because I can't ask people what they want for it on Ebay without posting an auction... I have looked around, but I figure some people around here may have a better estimation on it's price than I can get by visiting some websites.

And I am willing to sell it here and ship it wherever. I've got the Styrofoam packaging to secure it during shipping. I don't have a photo of the actual thing, but if you look in the Mac Screenshot Requests thread, I posted a screenshot that obviously came from a Mac of some sort... Plus, would I lie with this many posts on this site and nothing but my entire credibility to lose?

does it have applecare or warranty left? What size screen does it have? Do you still have the original recipt? Do you have all of the original packaging and cd's etc???

It should. I got it new in October, and it lasts a year. The max screen size is 1024x768, but you can also hook it up to an external monitor. My roomate's got his hooked up to some massive 21" one right now. I am missing the box, but the styrafoam is here.

I'll have to see about the receipt, I'm notorious for losing those (which isn't good if I want to write off this Powerbook on next year's taxes!)...

i'd say around $1000... the 900mhz g3 goes for about $850, refurbed through apple... add in 512mb memory and airport... yea $1000 would be the minimum you should look for.

you might want to make the airport card optional and just put that in your pbook, unless airport extreme slots cant hold regualr cars.

No they can't :( I think Airport cards are bigger than Extreme cards actually, someone wanna verify this?

Yeah you can't intermix the Airport and AE cards. Different sizes and different architectures.

You can however use the advanced search and look at closed items, then see what similar ones went for. :p

It's a 12". No box, but I should have the manuals...Yeah, they're in my Big Bag O' Manuals?. However, I'm really looking for $800-$900 for this, right now. That's what I'll probably fetch on eBay, maybe more.

I got $800 CAD for a iBook G3 700mhz with 128mb ram, cd-rom, 20gb HD, airport about 3 months ago, and I know I could have gotten more. That was however before Apple released their iBook G4s. You should be able to get $850 USD for it, but I doubt you could get a grand with the lowest iBook G4 being just over the $1000 mark.

Edit. JSYK, I sold my iBook for the exact same reason. to go to a Powerbook, and I love it. I couldn't go back to a G3 processor now. (nor OS 10.2) I bought the PBook G4 12" and I use it more than all 4 of my PCs combined. (I think that may have something to do with the fact that I fix PCs all day, so I don't want to use them in my spare time. ;) )
