Max Veteran Posted January 26, 2004 Veteran Share Posted January 26, 2004 (edited) Does anybody know the Cas Latency of the memory already installed on the 1Ghz SuperDrive eMac? I'm a PC speed freak, and I dont want to buy a 512MB CL=2 module just to get CL=2.5/3 speeds. EDIT: To save posting another thread....Is there going to be a newer version of MSN to come out for the Mac? At the moment its stuck with the old emoticons. SFNE Freak
I looked in the Developer's Note on http://developer.apple.com and it doesn't say.
the evn show
I seam to recall 'back in the day' the old G4 powermacs shipped with CL3 or 2.5 (don't remember which) but you could replace them with CL2.5 or 2 and they would work just fine at full speed of the slowest stick. I'm sure some poking around on google will find the details. The thing to be careful of was that some sticks didn't work, and some did: you had to use high quality memory otherwise things went wrong (it was detected on boot and disabled maybe?) Of course we're talking about powermacs and not emacs, but I can't imagine that apple went too far out of their way to disable faster memory - I wouldn't count on them shipping anything better than CL2.5 in the eMac because it is their lowest cost machine. If you're really concerned about having a faster computer, don't you think entering the fight with a 1ghz emac is setting yourself up for an uphill battle? As for new MSN: Talk to microsoft, the last version is only a few months old - maybe you'll see another released sometime after office 2004, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Max Veteran Posted January 26, 2004 Author Veteran Share Posted January 26, 2004 If you're really concerned about having a faster computer, don't you think entering the fight with a 1ghz emac is setting yourself up for an uphill battle? Well, i'm a student, and as you can see from my sig, money is a bit on the tight side. So no G5's for me. iMacs are a shade too expensive, and im not particularly a TFT 'person'. I prefer CRT's for some reason. Once I get the eMac, i'm planning to do a lil bit of overclocking, and doubling the 256MB memory. That'll hopefully futureproof me for a little while. I've played around with my colleges 1Gb eMacs in our Media department. They seem pretty quick, and i'm a person who cannot STAND computers without upgrades. I done a bit of research, found out the eMacs had 10.3.0 installed, so the next day I came back with a CD-RW with the 10.3.2 upgrade on and installed it :) Same went for the 10.2 800Mhz eMac. I have always been a 'Windows' person, up until the time I visited an official Mac dealer in Boston on a skiing trip. This was back last February. I fell in love with the large, flat monitors :D Now, within the last month or so, I've become Mac addicted, and constantly visiting the Mac site. I've began to say to myself 'Windows sucks'. Enough of me rambling on.... Well, whatever the outcome, i'll take 256MB CL3 out of my secondary Windows machine and try putting it in the Mac, just to make it a nice 512MB. Thanks for the replies.
