JadeWolf324
ok here is the setup. ==================== i have a MDK 9.2 PC on a Network of 3 PC's: 1 LINKSYS Router - Ethernet Connection 1 MDK Workstation - firewalled 1 MDK Laptop 1 XP Workstation ==================== =the 1 MDK workstation is running an apache and a pure-ftpd server. (this is the PC that has the shorewall firewall) =the 1 MDK Laptop is just a laptop...it does nothing but browse my FTP or do homewerk. =The 1 XP Workstation has my network printer that i use off of my 1 MDK workstation. I have the shorewall firewall installed on the MDK Workstation. it does work and it allows out my webserver but it DOES NOT allow out my FTP server, CUPS, and SAMBA. im not sure which of those is most important to print out of my PC (between cups and samba, i assume they are equally important) but neither of them are leaving my PC to the other. I have tried other firewalls and they also have this same problem...can someone please help me figure out what to do? nothing seems to be working..and i dont know what else to do. as soon as this firewall works i plan to extend it to the MDK laptop (minus the needs for FTP and Webserver but it still needs CUPS and SAMBA for printing) could you tell me ALL needed ports to allow samba out and cups out on a local network...i dont need it to be working as a server (out on the net)...also what ports does pure-ftpd use? i thought it was 21..but im not sure...port 20 is open on my router i think...so im wondering if thats needed on my software firewall.. please help me out guys...i've google...i've searched..i cant find the ports...im not sure if thats even the problem...i assume it is since firestarter and kmyfirewall had the same problems. PseudoRandomDragon
Samba, for Windows networking, uses NetBIOS ports 137-139. I find that these ports are automatically opened and a Windows networking connection is allowed simply by loading Samba. Unless your firewall provides outbound protection, it should not be a problem. If you go to Mandrake setup, go to Drakfirewall, you should be able to configure it. Click the advanced button to specifiy ports to open.
