acpi

What fan is causing problems? And, how do you know it should turn off? Perhaps something is running when you are in Linux that is using the CPU, and it is warm enough to require the fan...

I only say this because there isn't a lot of information here on what services you may have running that you don't know of... (run the command chkconfig | grep 5:on (or something like that) to see what services you have running).

no the kernel i had didn't support it.....so i just installed 9.2 cuz it already has the patch but yet the problem persists.

under power management it says not all acpi options are on and i need to compile the kernel again but when i go to usr/src/ there is no linux folder.

when i go into power management settings it says this.

(Your computer seems to have a partial ACPI installation. ACPI was probably enabled, but some of the sub-options were not - you need to enable at least 'AC Adaptor' and 'Control Method Battery' and then rebuild your kernel.)

how do i do this?

but mandrake 9.2 has the newest kernel.

i just need to know how to enable the acpi.

mdk has told you.. recompile the kernel with acpi enabled.. its all listed in kernel config... if you dont know how to compile a kernel, google it.

post your questions here it will help others.. once you extract your kernel package you need to symlink it to /usr/src/linux

something like

ln -sf /where/kernel/extracted/package/is /usr/src/linux

and there is your /usr/src/linux directory.
